Nature of Work

This is a unique opportunity to work in an academic and clinical Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery practice with a focus on Skeletal Dysplasia. This position will also assist in clinical research on the diagnosis and management of early onset scoliosis, metabolic bone disease, complex spine deformity, mucopolysaccharidosis and skeletal dysplasia. Our vision is to be a local, regional, and national leader in sports medicine for pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients. We provide the highest quality, professional and ethical care to all patients through integration of comprehensive education and exceptional musculoskeletal research. The position will be a full-time exempt (non-hourly) Instructor - Physician Assistant position in the Department of Orthopedics. The employee will work in the Denver Metropolitan area. The position is not eligible for tenure.

Supervision Received

This position reports to Pediatric Orthopedics Chair, Dr. Klane White, MD

Working Conditions

This position works primarily Monday- Friday starting around 6:30 AM and will be located primarily in the Denver Metropolitan area. Early morning meetings and shifts extending beyond 8 hours may be necessary, with advanced notice.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is a position requiring interest in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery and the sub-specialty Skeletal Dysplasia. The applicant must be self-directed, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a high-intensity environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required as well. In general, the applicant should be experienced and competent in the following areas:

Obtains detailed history and performs physical examinations on assigned patients; assesses and treats acute/chronic medical problems (focusing on the musculoskeletal system) and provides direct patient care to a specified patient population. Practices in a clinical setting as well as 1^st assist in the OR with Surgeon. Position will participate in APP Night/Weekend NOC Call. Writes prescriptions for medications, PT, OT, imaging studies, and DME as needed and based on appropriate guidelines. Completes Work Status, FMLA, and other forms and school notes as needed. Assists in providing pre-op and post-op care; writes appropriate orders, including those for narcotics and other scheduled drugs. Performs casting, splinting, and dressing applications, as appropriate. Performs emergency lifesaving procedures in cases such as cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, massive hemorrhage, or similar emergencies. Coordinates daily in-patient care, as needed, with the Hospitalist and other consulting services. When necessary, is responsible for the timely discharge of patients from the hospital and completion of discharge summaries. Notifies attending physician on call, house physician on call, or supervising physician regarding any unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation.
• Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
Coordinates the activities of patient care with residents / fellows and clinic support staff. Works with the team to ensure smooth transitions of care. Writes progress notes on patients' outpatient or hospital charts indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed; maintains other records as required. Provides health education to patients and families; may train and supervise medical students, and other health professional students engaged in specific clinical activities. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. Helps develop written educational materials and treatment protocols for specific conditions and post- operative care. Assists in preparing and giving power point and poster presentations for educational purposes at institutional, local, and national meetings, when appropriate.
• Participates in clinical research and may assist in preparation of manuscripts for publication.
Becomes proficient in documentation and use of current the electronic medical record program and be an available resource to other health care providers.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Is flexible with expected changes in the nature of the position, particularly as one gains knowledge and experience with Orthopedic conditions.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $100,000 - $120,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

State of Colorado Certified Physician's Assistant or Inclusion on the State of Colorado Advanced Practice Registry as an Advance Practice Nurse
• Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants or certification by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
• CPR Certified

Preferred Qualifications

Experience preferred. May be willing to train new grad with previous hospital/orthopedic experience or exceptional qualities
• Master's degree in a related Technical, Scientific, or Engineering discipline
• 6 months to 2 years' experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
