The School of Education and Human Development at the University of Colorado Denver is a highly collaborative program that includes university faculty and P-12 educators and community members. The School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) and its Office of Recruitment & Outreach (ORO) are committed to recruiting and retaining a diverse student body. ORO staff recruit for both undergraduate and graduate programs, certificates, partnerships, and pathways offered by the SEHD. We respond to prospective student inquiries and are the front line in interacting with students during the prospect to application to acceptance pipeline. ORO works with the marketing team to support messaging content and developing communications for prospective students. This position is responsible for implementing recruiting plans and strategies, achieving admissions goals and implementing yield strategies (co-developed with the Manager of Recruitment & Outreach). General responsibilities include: in-person as well as virtual school visits, parent/student programming, college fairs, information sessions, college fairs, panel discussions, and webinars. ORO staff must have the ability to effectively manage a recruitment plan that will include outreach, recruiting and yielding under-represented, local, rural, and out-of-state students.

Nature of Work

The NxtGEN Recruitment and Admissions Specialist (RAS) position is a full-time position and one of the key personnel for the federally funded Teacher Quality Partnerships project, NxtGEN Colorado (CO). NxtGEN CO is a partnership between the University of Colorado Denver, School of Education and Human Development (SEHD), three rural community colleges, Trinidad State College (Trinidad and Alamosa Campuses, Otero College and Lamar Community College and 26 high-need rural districts. The project extends SEHDs transformative agenda to recruit, prepare, and retain diverse "Next Generation" teachers for rural settings.

The NxtGEN RAS will be responsible for collaborating with NxtGEN CO and SEHD leadership to develop and implement high touch recruitment and admissions strategies to meet admissions goals set by NxtGEN leadership team with a focus on diverse rural students from underrepresented populations in rural communities, high schools, and community college pipelines. To that end, this position will work in a highly coordinated approach with NxtGEN leadership and staff, SEHD leadership, and rural community college partners to nurture positive relationships with prospective students, schools, organizations and develop, implement, and lead a high touch recruitment and admissions support system from inquiry to application to admissions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

All activities of NxtGEN CO are collaboratively designed with the NxtGEN CO Leadership Team and other SEHD staff and leadership. Below are essential duties & responsibilities of the RAS:
  • Collaborate with NxtGEN leadership and SEHD leadership and staff to design and implement a recruitment and admissions process from inquiry to registration that includes a well-developed process of tracking and supporting students throughout the process. Over time, scale up this process for all SEHD UG students.
  • Develop and implement a communication and support plan that provides high touch support for students who are working through the application and admission processes and provide frequent outreach and support for students throughout the process
  • Work with the Manager of Outreach and Recruitment and the T-PREP Director to design and support a recruitment infrastructure of roles, responsibilities, and meeting patterns to support recruitment in each rural location that includes Denver staff, community college staff, and local NxtGEN rural recruiters.
  • Develop annual strategic plans for recruitment in each of the four rural locations – Trinidad and Alamosa Campuses of Trinidad State College, Otero Junior College, Lamar Community College
  • Collaborate with the Manager of O&R and T-PREP Director to build capacity in local recruiters to identify high leverage recruitment processes and support the process from inquiry to application
  • Provide reports on recruitment and admissions support to be included with grant reporting
  • Participate and effectively contribute as a member of the broader NxtGEN CO implementation team and the SEHD R&O/Admissions teams that meet on a regular basis.

Primary work hours are 8:00 – 5:00. The primary work location is the CU Denver campus but some partial remote work options are available. Travel is required at times for recruitment events and meetings with recruiters and project staff at the partner community college colleges and participating districts.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position has been established at: $56,000-$60,000

This is a grant-funded position. Continuation of the position is entirely dependent on the continued availability of the grant funds, which are currently expected through September 2027.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

This position does not offer visa sponsorship.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in higher education, education, public administration, psychology, sociology, education, counseling, liberal arts, communication, or a closely related field.
  • Three years professional experience in a higher education setting providing direct services to students.

Conditions of Employment:
  • This position will be required to transport oneself and work materials to and from in-state locations in and around Trinadad, Alamosa, La Juanta, and Lamar, CO. An individual in this position must be willing and able to meet this requirement at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling, education, public affairs, behavioral science, communication, or related field
  • Prior admissions and recruitment experience
  • Familiarity with SIS, CRMs and other student information, recruitment and success systems
  • Fluent in English and Spanish, both written and verbal
