Description Purpose:The Substitute teacher provides care for children assigned to her under the general direction of the Teachers and the Head of SchoolDuties:Responsible for the care, safety, and well-being of the children assigned to the preschool group
Assist with the development of lesson plans and daily schedule for preschool groups
Set up and maintain the physical environment to meet the needs of preschool-age children
Demonstrate verbally and by role modeling, a sound knowledge of good teaching practices and of child growth and development
Participate in staff meeting discussions and ongoing training for State Licensing and Step Up to Quality regarding program, children, and families
Provide appropriate, accurate information to families regarding their children as well as general child development information
Demonstrate an understanding of preschool-age growth and development and general knowledge of nutrition, health, and first aid
Demonstrate ability to work with children warmly, calmly, and in an unhurried way while maintaining a safe, clean, and pleasant environment
Demonstrate ability to meet the social, emotional, physical, and developmental needs of individual children
Contribute to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the Lab School; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed
- Exhibit a “child/family/customer first” orientation in providing exceptional service in all responsibilities and interactions demonstrating versatility in handling people and situations
- Adapt willingly and quickly to changing priorities, responsibilities, and child/family needs and expectations; anticipate and identify child/family’s needs
- Collaborate well with others and help make the Center staff a cohesive group
- Communicate, cooperate and collaborate with others to achieve common Center, Division, and University goals
- Willingly assist in various responsibilities and assignments as appropriate within the Center as required during high service demand times or upon shifts in Center enrollment
- Develop and nurture an effective, productive, and respectful rapport and working relationship with students, faculty and staff co-workers, and various campus and community constituencies maintaining an appropriate level of professionalism
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational skills, a sense of humor, flexibility, and creativity
- Communicate information clearly and concisely and listen well to others
- Maintain a high level of accuracy, consistently reviewing work to detect errors, oversights, or omissions
- Take immediate and independent action when necessary assuming initiative for creative problem solving
- Demonstrate creativity and high energy
- Accomplish tasks with follow-through to completion
- Must possess an aptitude for technological development and its implications for appropriate automation of the preschool classroom
- Academic year position; multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions; customer contact; strict confidentiality; detailed work; must be mentally and physically fit for employment in a facility caring for young children including lifting, stooping, bending and ability to move quickly and respond appropriately to needs of children; maintain visual contact with a broad area.
