Minimum Qualifications:

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Master’s degree in Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Adult Education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Position Summary:

The Office of Multicultural Services and Programs (MSP) is in Memorial Hall. It is the goal of every staff member to develop and demonstrate an unyielding commitment to maintaining an inclusive and multicultural attitude and mindset. The MSP Office will support the University of Georgia’s mission by:

  • Providing programmatic initiatives focused on building connections between the community and topics related to fostering the understanding of and respect for cultural similarities as well as differences.
  • Advising multiple cross-cultural student organizations.
  • Fostering a sense of belonging to support student retention through the development of relevant services for all students, including those from underrepresented populations.
  • Supporting and creating well-being initiatives designed to enhance the overall health of all students.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Programming & Outreach Efforts:

  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate programs designed to increase the campus awareness and appreciation of different cultures and to increase the developmental and academic success of all students at the University of Georgia, including students from underrepresented populations. This will include supervising, developing, and assessing all Heritage Month kickoffs and programmatic efforts in conjunction with the Graduate Assistant. Heritage Month celebrations include Latinx heritage month, Native American Heritage Month, Black Heritage Month, Women’s History Month, APIDA Heritage Month, etc. Coordinators will be responsible for planning dynamic kickoff events for every heritage month as well as collaborating with students and campus partners to deliver intentional, educational, and creative programming events throughout the month’s celebrations.
  • Coordinators will also provide leadership in the development of a DEIB-related program, held bi-weekly in the Intersection space. These talks provide the UGA community the opportunity to discuss topics surrounding race, gender, socio-economic status, accessibility, etc. in a brave and safe environment. Coordinators will be responsible for planning the selected presenters/speakers, advertising, and topics students deem important.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Student Organization Advising, Leadership Development, Training, & Management:

  • Serve as a primary advisor to a collection of multicultural student organizations housed within the MSP Office by assisting with event management, organizational leadership development, and risk management.
  • Coordinators will advise, oversee, and manage major programming events hosted by various MSP student organizations.
  • Supervise, with the support of a Graduate Assistant, leadership growth experiences focused on developing essential skills for all MSP organizations.
  • Plan and coordinate bi-annual leadership development retreats for all MSP organizations in collaboration with other campus departments.
  • Create and maintain resources for MSP organizations to assist with their development and success.
  • Oversee the budgets of the respective student organizations and be cognizant of various aspects of the MSP budget.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Administrative Duties:

  • Be responsible for basic administrative tasks associated with assigned programs and organizations, including budgetary management and compliance, marketing, assessment and evaluation.
  • Be cognizant that policy is being followed and maintaining fiscal responsibility. Follow UGA and UGA Student Affairs policies and communicate them to organizations/students as appropriate.
  • Provide support and assistance for the MSP Director, as needed, by representing MSP on various Divisional and University committees as determined by department leadership. Facilitation, publications, and assessment in coordination with the Director.
  • Attend UGA Student Affairs meetings and professional development opportunities as requested. Be willing to take on additional responsibilities as assigned by department leadership.
  • Provide quality marketing for programs and services offered through MSP. Ensure that appropriate media outlets are utilized to reach intended audiences (email to all students, The Red and Black, flyers, message boards, etc.).
  • Assist the Director of MSP in supervising, training, and evaluating the MSP graduate and student staff to ensure that programs and services offered by the office are meeting the needs of our students.
  • Collaborate with other departments within student affairs, academic affairs, Public Service and Outreach, and other staff to ensure diverse and academic programming that reaches across the campus.
  • Represent the MSP Office at various programs geared toward recruitment of multicultural students (high school, visitations, presentations to potential students and parents, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.
