The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, English as a Second Language, De Anza College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Teach all ESL skills at all levels (credit / noncredit). Show expertise and experience in teaching college-level advanced composition (equivalent to freshman composition) using a variety of culturally inclusive and equity-minded teaching strategies. Demonstrate knowledge of current research and pedagogical and methodological techniques. Apply equity practices in teaching diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Demonstrate high proficiency in teaching online and face-to-face classes using a current and effective course management system. Support the success of all face-to-face and online students using effective materials, texts, feedback, and assessment techniques. Advise and assist a diverse student population to facilitate student retention and success. Work in partnership with the ESL Department, the Language Arts Division, De Anza faculty and staff, and the community at large to develop and promote our courses and recruit students. Assist in the development and revision of curricula, text selection, student learning outcomes, and ESL Department program review in addition to other departmental duties.

Standard duties expected of all faculty include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, service on district and/or college committees, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor.  Instructors also have the opportunity to participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.Master's degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis OR Bachelor’s degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, applied linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND Master’s din linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speck, or a foreign language OR the equivalent.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated commitment to equity in education and ability to incorporate equity pedagogies.

Two (2) years’ experience teaching a variety of ESL courses in community colleges to under-served, under-prepared, and international students.

Proficiency in English and ability to serve as a model for second language acquisition.

Experience in and passion for teaching advanced ESL composition and reading courses to diverse populations of students.

Evidence of commitment to cultural humility and culturally responsive student-centered pedagogy through coursework, training, and/or experience.

Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to collaborative instruction.

Understanding of and ability to effectively apply current ESL methodology, assessment, and engaging instructional techniques in order to foster student success. 

Demonstrated ability and experience working effectively with colleagues of diverse backgrounds at the department and college level.

Demonstrated leadership in promoting teaching, learning, and departmental innovations.

Demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to participation in the shared governance and equity goals of the College.

Experience with instructional technology and effective use of computer-based, online, and multimedia instructional and learning platforms to meet diverse student needs.

Experience teaching a variety of online and in-person modalities.

Active engagement in TESOL/CATESOL.

HIRING RANGE: $67,090.00 - $110,186.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant’s verified education and experience.
