Full Professor of Sustainability Geoscience UCD School of Earth Sciences, University College Dublin Permanent post (Ideally commencing 1 September 2023)

The UCD School of Earth Sciences, in conjunction with the HEA's Senior Academic Leadership Initiative (SALI*), is seeking to strengthen and enhance the school's research and teaching in sustainability by making a strategic appointment at Full Professor level.

Geoscience is key to achieving many of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and we encourage applications from those who can make a major contribution to this effort. Creating a sustainable global society is a core objective of UCD's `2020-2024 Rising to the Future' strategy (https://strategy.ucd.ie/).

The successful candidate will be an exceptional mid-career Earth scientist with a demonstrable track record in driving forward the sustainability agenda from a geoscience perspective, and able to offer vision and outstanding leadership at school, university, and national level.

We invite applications from across the full breadth of sustainability geoscience, including, but not limited to, hydrogeology, marine and coastal geoscience, palaeoclimatology, supply of critical raw materials, geohazards and sustainable geoenergy. We also highly value cross-disciplinary research and anticipate the successful candidate will develop new collaborations with other UCD groups, both within the College of Science and more widely (e.g., with Engineering, Social Sciences).

The UCD School of Earth Sciences (https://www.ucd.ie/earthsciences/) is the largest geoscience school in Ireland and one of 7 schools in the UCD College of Science. The school hosts the Irish Centre for Research in Applied Geosciences (iCRAG), a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) research centre involving all the Irish geoscience institutions (https://www.icrag-centre.org), as well as the National Centre for Isotope Geochemistry at UCD.

Our research covers both pure and applied topics and addresses current societal challenges including the energy transition, environmental change, geohazards and access to raw materials. We continue to value field-based science alongside both computational and laboratory-based research. For further details of our research themes and recent output, see https://www.ucd.ie/earthsciences/research/ourresearchthemes/.

The successful applicant will be expected to commit fully to supporting the school's teaching programme including contributing to existing and future teaching initiatives.
