The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Spanish, De Anza College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

Teach a full-time assignment in Spanish, at all course levels, which may include day, evening or weekend courses. The assignments will include in-person courses, as well as online and hybrid courses that meet synchronously and asynchronously. Advise and assist student, develop strategies that meet the needs of a diverse student population and facilitate student retention and success. Foster the growth and success of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective and culturally responsive teaching methodologies, and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions. Assist the Dean with planning and scheduling courses for the Spanish Department and with tasks related to faculty development within the Department. Assist in the development and revision of curricula, completing Studies Learning Outcome Assessment Cycles (SLOACs), and the Spanish Department Program Reviews. Maintain disciplinary and pedagogical currency and the capacity to effectively engage students from diverse ethnic, cultural, economic, linguistic, gender, sexual orientations, and ability backgrounds.

Standard duties expected of all faculty members include development and evaluation of curricula, engagement in divisional equity activities, maintaining scheduled office hours, attendance at division and department meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of a full-time instructor. Instructors also have the opportunity to serve on District and College committees and participate in campus extra-curricular activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  2. A Master's degree in Spanish OR Bachelor's degree in Spanish AND Master's degree in another language or linguistics OR the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Master's degree in Spanish.
  2. Native or equivalent proficiency in Spanish.
  3. In-depth knowledge of global Spanish-speaking cultures, including: traits of the regional dialects of Spanish (e.g., vocabulary, pronunciation, grammatical variations); historical and contemporary social, political, economic, environmental issues; lifestyles; artistic expressions; and cultural contributions.
  4. Coursework or training in language pedagogy and effective instructional methodologies.
  5. Ability to engage in critical and equity pedagogies.
  6. Knowledge of curriculum development that highlights the importance and contributions of Spanish-speaking cultures and/or fosters heritage Spanish speakers.
  7. Experience teaching Spanish at the high school level or higher to students from diverse ethnic, cultural, economic, linguistic, gender, sexual orientations, and ability backgrounds, especially in a community college setting.
  8. Demonstrated ability in the use of current learning technologies and effective language teaching strategies and styles that are creative, contextualized, interactive and conducive to the assessment of student outcome.
  9. Experience drafting Student Learning Outcomes, collecting assessment data on their achievement, reflecting on, analyzing, and interpreting the data to improve teaching and learning.
  10. Commitment to implementing cooperative learning group structures, student community-service-learning and civic engagement experiences that address the multiple learning modalities of diverse student populations.
  11. Strong commitment to working collaboratively as a member of a team to advance educational equity (e.g. adoption of open educational resources, retention strategies, tutoring/mentoring opportunities) and the missions of the Division and of the College to promote a civic capacity for global, cultural, social, and environmental justice.

HIRING RANGE: $67,090.00 - $110,186.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
