Community Research and Recruitment Coordinator
We are looking for a bright and motivated Community Research and Recruitment Coordinator to join our team at the Center for Substance Use and Infectious Disease Care Integration at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The Coordinator will be an integral part of the research team, and interact with investigators, collaborators, and all other members of the study team. Under overall supervision of the Principal Investigator and Senior Research Program Officer II, the Coordinator will participate in day-to-day logistical and operational tasks for a variety of long-term NIH-funded clinical trials and other investigator-initiated research protocols. Study-related tasks will involve interacting with individuals affected by substance use at various JHU clinics, Emergency Department, and community-based sites throughout Baltimore City.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Recruit research participants including active injection drug users from Baltimore into research studies
- Engage closely with research and program participants, specifically people actively using drugs and or alcohol
- Contribute thoughtfully and with humility to a stigma-free research environment by demonstrating commitment to ongoing learning and feedback
- Administer detailed questionnaires to assess drug use practices, social network (friends and family) characteristics, and health care access related behaviors
- Conduct study interviews and focus groups
- Data entry
- Participate in aspects of the development of research protocols
- Ensure adherence to protocols in accordance with Good Clinical Practices (GCP)
- Maintain regulatory documents according to internal and study-specific SOPs
- Coordinate activities of research study to assure validity of findings
- Oversee record management for study. Set up database using MS Excel, Access, REDCap or similar software
- Assist with regulatory submissions, including IRB management
- Assist with tracking budget expenditures for study operations
- Serve as a resource for clinicians involved in study in regard to protocol requirements
- Abstract medical data from Epic (electronic medical record), requires some interpretation
- Participate in study meetings, provide prepared and succinct updates on protocol implementation status, and offer critical insights to operational issues
- Conduct literature reviews, and assist with preparation of manuscripts for scientific publication and/or presentation
- Travel to study sites, conduct home visits
- Possible early mornings, evening, or weekend work, depending on study needs for participation retention efforts
- Conduct research assessments, data collection procedures, outreach activities, specimen collection and processing, careful data entry
- Complete all other duties as assigned
Study Recruitment & Retention
- Build and thoughtfully maintain working relationships with clinical and study collaborators at study recruitment sites and in the community.
- Follow common study recruitment strategies as specified in each research protocol, which may include posting flyers, placing print and social media ads, sending out recruitment letters, and/or approaching potential study candidates in the community.
- Remind participants of upcoming research visits via phone, mail, peer, community contacts, and home visits.
- Perform outreach activities as needed to find research participants who have fallen out of contact.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
- Basic computer and software/database skills are required.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years' related experience working productively with people with housing instability, substance use disorders, HCV and HIV/AIDS, and contact with the carceral system.
- MD drivers license and reliable transportation will be helpful.
