Kutztown University of Pennsylvania enrolls approximately 8,000 students in graduate and undergraduate programs. The university is located in the borough of Kutztown in a charming rural setting, and is within 20 minutes driving time of the diverse metropolitan areas of Allentown/Bethlehem and Reading, and within 60 minutes of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at Kutztown University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Game Development beginning Fall 2023. The Game Development major is an interdisciplinary program incorporating courses from numerous department (Computer Science & Information Technology, Art & Design, English, Music, Mathematics, Communication Studies, and Cinema, Television & Media Production) to provide students with the opportunity to pursue a variety of careers in the field. This interdisciplinary approach to Game Development distinguishes KU’s Game Development major from other programs in this area of study.

We seek candidates whose research, teaching and/or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse audiences in higher education. The successful candidate must have at least one year of teaching, research or industry experience in game development. In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, performance review and evaluation of faculty is based on effective teaching and fulfillment of professional responsibilities; continuing scholarly growth; and service. Required: candidate must either hold a doctorate or be ABD with completion by December 31, 2024 in Game Development, Computer Science, or a closely related field. Teaching will include game development and related courses, as well as other departmental courses, for majors and non-majors. A successful applicant will teach 12 credit hours per semester, advise students, and exhibit the capability to make significant contributions in teaching, program and curriculum development, and service to the university. Our department is passionate about student learning and enjoys small class sizes along with resources to create 2D, 3D, AR & VR applications. Scholarly growth and published research are also expected and are required to achieve tenure and gain promotion. A successful interview and demonstration of teaching ability are required. Preference will be given to candidates with (1) a strong background in Game Development, Interactive Games & Media, Human Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence; (2) full-time experience in teaching undergraduate/graduate computer science or game development courses; and (3) relevant industry experience.
