JOB SUMMARYThe Senior Graphic Designer is responsible for leading the creation and production support of a wide range of projects including printed brochures, flyers, advertisements, promotional items, websites, digital assets and more. The Senior Graphic Designer leads the creative direction of internal and external materials produced by the Office of Marketing and Communications while maintaining the University’s brand standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSI­­BILITIES
  • This position will perform design and production for various marketing materials (e.g. collateral (print & digital), merchandising (print & digital), web pages, landing pages, email templates, advertisements (print & digital), presentations, direct marketing, etc.).
  • Responsibilities include the design, management and production of creative solutions to meet client, University and health care center objectives; selecting the medium (print, digital or both) best suited to satisfy the desired result; while retaining continuity with the overall design quality standards and maintain the university brand guide standards.
  • Demonstrated computer graphic design skills and software knowledge to produce a wide variety of marketing and communications materials.
  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge and understanding of computer graphic design production and printing processes to effectively interface, oversee and collaborate with commercial printers, photographers and other outside vendors. This includes knowledge of routinely acceptable costs for each of these services and the ability to produce specification sheets and obtain and evaluate estimates.
  • Creative ability to brainstorm, conceptualize and develop graphic concepts and appropriate text for a variety of marketing and communications pieces while working independently, as well as a part of a team.
  • Outstanding organizational skills to successfully manage and bring to closure a variety of projects simultaneously, with professional and excellent results.
  • Diplomacy skills to tactfully and professionally interact with a diverse mix of individuals, including students, faculty and staff, clients, and vendors, in a variety of circumstances and settings. Excellent communication skills to work one-on-one with colleagues in a professional and persuasive manner.
  • Lead the cataloging and management of campus digital image assets on image servers, video archive, and hard files.
  • Lead the project management, design and ordering of all University business cards and office signage.
  • Lead the organization and management of the University’s creative server.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.   • Strong understanding and experience in project management.
  • Extensive experience in graphic art design concepts, processes and procedures, including illustration of various media, from design, reproduction, layout and camera process.
  • Highly proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office.
  • Typography, pre-process production and color correction, and printing and production processes.
  • Creatively design effective educational and informational materials related to University programs and health care centers.
  • Visualize abstract ideas and concepts; graphically transpose ideas and thoughts into paper or computer screen.
  • Produce neat, accurate and quality line work and design.
  • Manage projects while meeting deadlines and staying within budgets as assigned.
  • Willingness to take design direction from management and work collaboratively with others.
  • Techniques for providing a high level of customer services by effectively dealing with internal and external clients, vendors, contractors and other contacts.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills including presentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated grammatical and editing skills; AP style guide knowledge preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with an inclusive and diverse external and internal team of colleagues, students, patients, donors and constituents.
  • Proven record of success in collaborative team environments, including morale building, effective handling of team dynamics in high pressure situations, creating a supporting team and working to a high standard.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, maintain confidentiality and work independently.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Organizational skills and ability to plan project production and expedite jobs to meet deadlines.
  • Submission of portfolio and samples of past work.
  • Completion of design assignment as part of the interview process.
  • Prior working experience at a creative agency with non-profit, health care or in-house creative team.
  • Experience communicating and negotiating with management.
  • Experience incorporating multimedia, including video, audio, digital media and photography, into communication vehicles.
  • Experience with basic HTML or web design/development software.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in graphic design, preferably in a non-profit, University or health care setting or relevant field. Creative agency experience a plus.
