Payroll Assistant
The Bloomberg School of Public Health's Human Resource Services Office is seeking a Payroll Assistant to perform a variety of tasks in support of payroll activities. The Office/Data/Payroll Assistant is responsible for performing accurate data entry, providing customer service, payroll management, and personnel recordkeeping to BSPH students, staff, and faculty employees, acting as a liaison with other central HR offices /JHU schools in a fast-paced work environment. This role is responsible for performing duties of a sensitive and confidential nature. Successful candidate must possess strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and exceptional customer service skills.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

General clerical duties
  • Assist with completion and activation of Timesheet-X Records.
  • Troubleshoot Timesheet-X reported issues and escalate properly within BHRS team or to Timesheet-X Implementation (JHU) Team.
  • Enter hourly paid employee timesheets into CATS (Time Entry) system on a weekly basis assuring that the payroll timesheets are processed timely and accurately.
  • Responds to time entry related inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Assist with maintaining personnel records and appropriate payroll record keeping and filing for the office using electronic OnBase filing system for ease of retrieval. into Service Now for items requiring escalation.
  • May process payroll actions (ISR's) for maintenance of Timesheet-X data.
  • May process payroll actions (ISR's) on a daily/weekly basis, including, but not limited to terminations and bonus supplements.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Two years related experience.


  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • SAP experience.
  • Prior data entry experience.

  • Ability to maintain and consistently demonstrate and provide a high level of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Demonstration of accurate data entry via Typing Test.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to prioritize work to meet various deadlines.
  • Possess basic computer literacy skills including internet, email software (Microsoft Outlook), and other Microsoft Products (MS Excel, MS Word)
  • Ability/willingness to learn new software (SAP, OnBase and MS Teams).
  • Experience processing high volumes of data accurately is required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others both within and outside Human Resources.
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints.

Starting Salary Range: $15.70-$21.65 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)

*JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
