WIC Service Associate
The Department of Population, Family, and Reproductive Health in the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University is seeking a WIC Service Associate.
The primary purpose of the WIC Service Associate position is to obtain socio-economic, health, and dietary information and identify problems that would determine a client's eligibility for the federally funded Supplemental Nutritional Program (WIC).
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts initial certification and recertification.
- Collects anthropometric and hematological data.
- Accurately obtains documents and enters information in the WOW system, proof of residence, identifies proof of income, and proof of pregnancy.
- Provides primary and secondary nutritional education.
- Follows established federal and state guidelines prescribing infant formulas and appropriate food packages consistent with guidelines and the applicant's dietary/health requirements and preferences.
- Evaluates the need for and refer clients to other health, food assistance, and social service programs.
- This position's work schedule may include Saturdays as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency.
- Completion of the State of Maryland Competent Para-Professional Authorities (CPPA) Training Program within nine (9) months of hire.
- Excellent computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Able to work independently.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
- Excellent time management and communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Experience working with multi-cultural and special needs populations.
- Ability to provide excellent participant-centered customer service; basic nutrition knowledge; ability to prioritize work assignments; proficiency in Microsoft word.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must be willing to travel to various sites and perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or program coordinator.
- Previous WIC experience is a plus.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
