Job Summary

The Department of Advertising, Public Relations, and Media Design (APRD) in the College of Media, Communication and Information at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for three Tenure-Track Assistant Professor positions specializing in advertising to begin in August 2023.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

The APRD faculty are an inclusive set of researchers, creatives and educators focused broadly on advertising, public relations, and media design. The department serves a large undergraduate population studying for a Bachelor of Science in Strategic Communication, and a growing graduate program. CU Boulder is an R-1 research university with almost 30,000 undergraduates and 7,000 graduate students. Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains yet only 27 miles from Denver with its lively advertising and public relations scene, Boulder is often named one of the most desirable places in America to live.
Established in 2015, the College of Media, Communication and Information (CMCI) is at the forefront of the revolution in communication and digital technology education. CMCI prides itself on offering students an interdisciplinary education with a focus on innovation and creativity. Our students and faculty from six departments think across boundaries, innovate around emerging problems and create culture that transcends convention.
CMCI strives to be a community whose excellence is premised on diversity, equity and inclusion. We seek candidates who share this commitment and demonstrate understanding of the experiences of those historically underrepresented in higher education. We welcome applications from minoritized racial and ethnic identities, ciswomen, non-normative genders and sexualities, persons with disabilities, and others who have encountered legacies of marginalization.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Teach a wide variety of courses in our undergraduate advertising curriculum and contribute to our doctoral program.
  • Guide and work with our graduate students as well as build and sustain ties with the advertising industry.

What You Should Know

It prepares students for careers in various types of advertising agencies/departments, including full-service, digital, planning, and performance marketing. These positions require teaching in this track, and we have a particular need for media planning and performance media instruction.
As part of the University of Colorado Boulder’s deep commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, the campus has implemented a reference check pilot program with respect to final candidates for tenured faculty appointments. The reference check pilot program is intended to allow CU Boulder to collect and review information about a candidate's conduct at their previous institutions, specifically conduct related to sexual misconduct, harassment, and/or discrimination – before making hiring decisions. All final candidates for tenured faculty appointments are required to complete an Authorization to Release Information.
All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement. New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
