Job OverviewThe University of Cincinnati Department of English invites applications for an Assistant Professor-Educator instructional position in Professional Writing, beginning August 15, 2023. Initial three-year appointment, non-tenure track, AAUP represented, with the expectation of long-term renewal contingent upon strong performance in the role. Teaching assignment is 9 credit hours per semester (3 classes) in the Rhetoric and Professional Writing track as well as service writing courses for other majors at the university.

This person will have opportunities to collaborate with faculty on curricular enrichment and outreach opportunities with our professional writing advisory board as well as community partners. There is a potential for a future appointment to an administrative role such as director of professional writing or undergraduate studies director.

Essential Functions• Teach primarily in-person professional writing classes which prepare students to produce writing for professional and public contexts.

• Participate in departmental committees.

• Participate in professional development activities such as presentations at regional or national conferences.

Minimum RequirementsPrior to effective date of appointment, candidates must have an MA or MS in Professional Writing, Technical Communication, or related field, as well as teaching experience including the following, which may have been gained concurrently:

• three academic years of experience teaching professional and technical writing classes

• one academic year of experience in online or hybrid settings

Must also provide evidence of at least one academic term (can be concurrent with teaching) of departmental service on a committee or in an administrative role and at least one field-related conference presentation or academic publication.
