The Program Coordinator will assist with the development of new and existing academic programs in line with the Veterans Upward Bound program’s academic goals. The Veterans Upward Bound program helps first generation or low-income students, who are also veterans, have an opportunity to achieve their career and academic aspirations through the program. The program is based out of the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s East St. Louis Higher Learning Center.

The selected candidate will assist the Program Director and collaborate with targeted community agencies to develop and implement new academic programs and initiatives for veterans as well as evaluate and expand existing resources and track student participation, success and outcomes from such programs. Duties for the Coordinator will include:
-Recruitment: Identify new participants for Veterans Upward Bound as per goals set by supervisor; conduct presentation sessions at local community agencies to encourage participation; review potential applications prior to submission to the director; and assist with program orientation.
-Retention: Manage retention efforts for current participants including monitor enrollment counts; identify participants with increasing absences and factors affecting attendance; and development of plans to help participants overcome attendance obstacles.
-Education: Conduct and host academic workshops with service area veteran and community agencies, post-secondary institutions and other community on topics such as college enrollment, financial literacy, stress management, success skills, etc.
-Mentor: Serve as the success coach for participants and meet in a one-on-one basis as needed to evaluate program progress and retention, and completion.
-Follow up: Make recommendations and referrals to other resources, both within the University and in the community, to help meet additional needs of participants. Ensure accurate records and reporting of programs and participants.

Other duties may be assigned based on the needs and goals of the program. Due to the professional duties of this position, some evening and weekend hours may be required as needed by program and meeting scheduling. Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree;
-Three (3) or more years of adult education training, college recruiting, academic advising or career coaching experience;
-Program coordination and scheduling experience.

FLSA Exemption Status:Exempt Posting Salary:$3,500 Monthly ($42,000 Annual); excellent benefits package.
