Position Purpose:

To provide accountability for the fiscal and business operations for Dartmouth Dining Services, with activities including preparation, monitoring and reporting of the departments’ annual operating budgets; and development of complex financial analyses and long-term financial and capital plan.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp:

Bachelors plus 3-5 years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

* Five years of financial management experience.* Significant experience developing and supporting complex financial models and reports.* Experience implementing change.* Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Advanced financial analysis skills. Equally able to work with financial details, as well as develop financial strategy.* Ability to work with and command the respect of all levels of constituents using a collaborative approach.* Strong understanding of accounting principles.* Demonstrated awareness of and ability to make continuous improvements in the workplace.
* Ability to participate in and lead projects.* Continuously assesses work processes and actively engages in process improvement.* Ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and effective manner. Demonstrated presentation abilities.* Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.* Facile with developing and utilizing a variety of financial modeling tools and systems.* Highly developed degree of confidentiality, tact, judgement and initiative.

Description:

Financial Management

* Oversees all financial activity for Dartmouth Dining, including development of annual operating, position, and capital budgets; variance analysis and quarterly financial projections; and reporting.

* Works within strategic parameters established by College and divisional leaders to set the financial framework for DDS.

* Collaborates with employees and managers to understand drivers of budgetary variances and to recommend operational actions to address budget shortfalls and other variances.

* Performs analysis and recommends annual rates that are incorporated into a variety of dining plans.

* Manages the year-end close process, balancing various resources to meet established targets.

* Prepares ad-hoc analysis and what-if financial impact analysis to support management decision-making at all levels. Reporting and analysis should not be limited to financial information, but should include operational drivers of information such as temporary and student labor, meal plan enrollment, inventory management, cost of goods sold, etc.

* Serves as a financial representative for the division to College leadership by presenting the division’s financial plans and information in a clear, concise and convincing manner.

* Works closely with the Controller’s Office and Campus Services Finance team to assure adequate controls and reconciliation of cash and other revenues.

* Continuously assesses work processes and pro-actively engages in process improvement for areas of responsibility, taking care to communicate the related change impact to those affected. Takes maximum advantage of services provided by the Admin Finance Center and Admin HR Services team, and ensures transaction workflows between them are efficient and timely.

* Fiscal management of dining specific endowments and reserve accounts

* Provides guidance to department and program managers in the interpretation of College fiscal policies and in preparing and meeting budget plans; ensures compliance with divisional, institutional policies and procedures.

* Oversees Accounting Assistant to assure quality and accurate work is completed in a timely and friendly fashion. Sets daily, weekly, monthly, and overall job duties and goals. Sets work standards and holds the Accounting Assistant accountable.

* Maintains close and productive working relationships with both internal and external constituents. Serves as a point person for constituents to ask questions about departmental information.
* Creates and sustains an environment that fosters teamwork, excellence, respect, accountability and service. Ensures the delivery of excellent customer service to various constituencies – students, faculty, staff and visitors to the College.
