Position Summary:

Governors State University (GSU) is seeking to fill the position of Interface Developer/Analyst for the Information Technology Services (ITS) Department. The Interface Developer/Analyst is a programmer that has skills and experience integrating applications and databases using industry-standard methods and tools, including flat files and web services. The incumbent is responsible for working with users and vendors to elicit, document, and verify requirements as well as design and test integrations (analyst). The position provides a valuable service for GSU by allowing the best and most efficient exchange of data between applications as needed by institutional stakeholders in various projects.

Essential Responsibilities:
40%Application Interface Programmer: The role of Application programmer includes all
functions, tasks, and processes required to design, program, test, and troubleshoot data unidirectional and bidirectional integration interfaces between systems using industry standard methods and tools as well as established vendor API frameworks. This role includes all tasks that can be reasonably associated with this role, including but not limited to the essential items below.
• Works with vendors and end-users to design, program, test, and troubleshoot application program interfaces (APls) to allow institutional applications to exchange data (uni/bi­directionally).
Develops file-based interfaces and related data file transfer processes needed for applications that do not employ APls.
• Employs standard software development methodologies that include processes for interface architecture design, data integrity verification, and unit/integration testing,
• Utilizes knowledge of high-level software development languages to write, test, and deploy programs needed for data interfaces using industry standard methods and tools.
• Works with ITS staff, vendors, and end-users to understand source and destination data and related requirements to convert them into functional interfaces.
• Utilizes existing vendor APls and related documentation to develop integration endpoints needed for applications to interface.
• Utilizes commercially available data integration products such as integration hubs to coordinate, control, and automate APls for institutional applications, including acting as the integration hub software administrator.

30% – Systems Analyst: The role of systems analyst consists of direct interaction with end-users and vendors to elicit, document, and formalize interface technical and business needs, requirements, and essential functionality. This role includes all tasks that can be reasonably associated with this role, including but not limited to the essential items below.
• Facilitates requirement gathering sessions with end-users to elicit technical and functional requirements needed for interfaces.
• Works with vendors and external constituents to understand product data requirements and available interface methods.
• Provides technical expertise and advice to ITS leadership regarding interface needs and requirements, including products, tools, and methods.

15% – Technical Writer: The role of technical writer includes drafting, writing, and revising technical and functional documentation related to application interfaces developed and including
functional/technical specifications, test plans, and source code documentation. This role includes all tasks that can be reasonably associated with this role, including but not limited to the essential items below.
• Develops and validates technical and functional specification documents that reflect the requirements of new and existing interfaces.
• Maintains and updates technical and functional specification documentation to reflect any changes made to the interface or the applications.
• Develops and administers testing plans in coordination with ITS staff, vendors, and end­users to ensure interface accuracy and reliability.
• Writes and maintains source code comments and related documentation pertaining related designed functions and changes.

10% – Project Team Participant: The role of project team member requires incumbent to fully participate in development and implementation projects. This role includes all tasks that can be reasonably associated with this role, including but not limited to the essential items below.
• Participates in project team meetings.
• Contributes technical and functional expertise.
• Performs project tasks as needed.
• May be required to plan, lead, and monitor projects related to application and interface development.

5% – Other Duties as Assigned: All team members are expected to contribute towards the institutional mission and the departmental goals. Part of this responsibility includes performing technical and functional tasks, taking on additional temporary duties, and participating in cross­training exercises to perform additional duties.

Other Responsibilities:
• Monitors systems, applications, and services as required.
• Stays well informed regarding technology developments.
• Writes reports, recommendations, and performs technical analysis as requested.
• Participates in and attends training events, seminars, conferences, and meetings in representation of the institution.
• Writes and submits change requests and advisories in compliance with the departmental change control processes.
• Utilizes help desk ticketing software to track, respond to, and document issues reported by end-users.
• Provides technical assistance installing and supporting applications in Windows, Linux, and Mac environments as required.

(This is a non-unionized position. Salary starts at the base and is determined based on Education and Experience exceeding the minimum qualifications).

Minimum Qualifications:

REQUIRED: COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPTS, WHICH INCLUDES THE EARNED DEGREE AND CONFERRED DATE MUST BE ATTACHED FOR CONSIDERATION OF THIS POSITION

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Five years of hands-on demonstrable experience developing application interfaces (APls) using high-level programming languages.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience using and managing commercial data integration hub software.
• Working knowledge of structured query language (SQL), including writing queries and reviewing data design elements.
• Experience participating in projects including implementations and deployments.
