Position Summary:

Governors State University is seeking to hire an Electrician for the Facilities Development and Management department to construct, rebuild and maintain various types of electrical circuits, equipment, and machinery throughout the entire campus and grounds.

Essential Responsibilities
40% Install and maintain electrical systems that operate on alternating or direct current circuits, generators, transformers, and appliances through panels, switches, meters, and circuit breakers, HVAC controls, motor frequency drives and SK voltage distribution systems; repair motors and other electrical controls; repair and maintain electrical switchboards, panels, street lights, household appliances, air conditioners, furnaces, public address systems, and other apparatus utilizing electricity or its effects; maintain emergency generation.

40% Complete small to mid-size construction builds; perform all phone and network cable installs and analog cross connects; perform job take offs, obtain quotes and order materials; maintain Primex clock system, perform all locates of electric and gas lines on campus.

10% Install, maintain and repair electrical, electronic, and direct digital control systems, fire and security alarm systems, and associated electrical, electronic, and fiber optic equipment; perform record keeping for systems installed or maintained.

10% Operate equipment used for electrical construction work, maintenance work, or electrical repair work; act as lead worker to other electricians, laborers, and others assigned; performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Responsibilities
Work in tangent with other Facilities Development and Management (FDM) staff.

Salary: $50.00 Hourly Prevailing Wage

Minimum Qualifications:

REQUIRED: DOCUMENTATION CONFIRMING HIGH SCHOOL COMPLETION OR EQUIVALENT MUST BE ATTACHED FOR CONSIDERATION OF THIS POSITION, COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPTS MAY BE USED IN PLACE OF HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA (See “Special instructions to applicants” section below).

  1. High school graduation or equivalent
  2. Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman Electrician, with a minimum of five years of actual work in the trade, including apprenticeship or vocational training.
The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Electricians i.e. installing, maintaining, and/or repairing electrical systems, generators, transformers, motors and other electrical/electronic controls, electrical switchboard and other apparatus utilizing electricity, electrical, electronic and direct digital control systems, fire and alarm systems, and associated electrical, electronic and fiber optic equipment.
