Job Summary


The College of Engineering & Applied Science at the University of Colorado Boulder welcomes applications for the Assistant Dean for Organizational Development, Culture and Equity! This position will provide strategic direction in the areas of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) and Human Resources (HR) management. The position will work in close consultation with the Dean's cabinet, departmental chairs and directors, the campus office of diversity, equity and community engagement, campus human resources, and other administrative offices on the Boulder campus. The successful candidate will be a strong leader who is highly motivated, strategic and results oriented with a capacity for and an interest in organizational effectiveness by building effective work processes coupled with a high-quality customer focus orientation. The Assistant Dean will serve as the college HR leader. They will provide strategic leadership of staff by identifying and implementing organizational development initiatives. This position will be responsible for leading the design of the college's DEI strategy as it relates to the 250+ staff and 300+ faculty across the college. As part of the Dean's leadership team, this person will be an inspirational leader who provides strategic support and serves as an advisor, consultant, and leader with vision with deep DEI expertise to key collaborators. The Assistant Dean for Organizational Development, Culture and Equity will be a leading partner in the development, implementation, assessment, and reporting on the college's DEI plan in partnership with college's senior staff and key campus partners.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


Organizational Development and Human Resources Management:
  • Serves as the college HR leader for the CEAS HR staff and supports HR staff in departments and programs.
  • Is responsible for the strategic leadership of the staff, identifying and implementing necessary and important organizational development initiatives.
  • Serves as a member of the college’s executive leadership and contributes to organizational planning, evaluation, and resource allocation decisions in support of the mission, vision, and strategic plan of the college related to human resources infrastructure, framework, and strategies.
  • Collaborates with Campus HR leaders to ensure a detailed understanding of college strategy and tactics related to employee development, organizational effectiveness, discipline, succession planning, compensation, classification, and talent acquisitions.
  • Investigates and implements solutions addressing retention and equity gaps for CEAS employees.
  • Investigates, analyzes, and reports information and recommends solutions that optimize the college’s human resources and operations.
  • Supervises implementation and analysis of exit interviews in the interest of continuous improvement with regards to employee retention.
  • Implements and encourages process improvement via technology for improved efficiencies to create a productive workforce.

Culture and Equity:
  • Engages and partners with senior leadership to enhance, develop, and integrate DEI strategies and goals into all facets of the college.
  • Develops sustainable methodologies for equitable recruitment, hiring, engagement and retention; engages with succession planning and performance management to build a diverse workforce.
  • Co-leads the Inclusive Culture Council, to bring justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion leaders in the college together.
  • Supports and maintains the IDEA Plan Action website to assess the progress of the CEAS Inclusion, Diversity and Excellence in Academics (IDEA) Plan Actions ensuring departments, programs, and units are making satisfactory progress.
  • Supports CEAS partners in participating in the campus culture survey and disseminating results; identifies trends and develops consistent communication and feedback mechanisms to ensure that senior leadership and college partners can discuss and address equity issues impacting faculty and staff.
  • Cultivates a welcoming and inclusive culture by facilitating the development and implementation of programming, engineering education research, and assessment strategies.

Supervision:
  • This position supervises between 4-10 full time employees.
  • Directs, reviews, and assigned operations to meet college goals and objectives.
  • Evaluates performance on a continuous basis for coaching and feedback, setting goals, and any disciplinary action as needed. Conducts annual performance evaluations.
  • Maintains compliance with university and college policies.

What We Can Offer

  • The annual salary range for this position is $130,000 - $160,000. Relocation assistance is available within CEAS guidelines.

What We Require

  • Master’s degree in human resources, diversity, equity and organization development.
  • Six years of experience in DEI, OD and/or HR including leadership as an executive, manager, director or related role in multi-faceted organizations.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

  • Understanding and proven ability to develop, coach, professional staff as well faculty and researchers within academic and research units.

  • Ability to communicate complex ideas based in dissimilar fields of expertise to a wide audience with a varied knowledge base.
