Job Details
The Financial Accountant III, under direction, performs complex professional accounting tasks at a University level within the Division of Finance and Administration.
Responsibilities:
- Performs complex accounting work to include recording, examining, and analyzing of financial records, documents or reports
- Prepares and inputs general accounting entries, including journal vouchers and budget transfers into the accounting system. Serves as back-up for entries into USAS, the State’s accounting system.
- On a monthly basis, ensures that the general ledgers and subsidiary ledgers are in balance.
- Reconciles payroll clearing accounts including investigating and resolving discrepancies on a monthly basis. Works with Payroll Liaison in Human Resources to ensure that payroll activity is correctly recorded between the accounting system of record (FAMIS) and the HR system (Workday).
- Maintains Fixed Asset System (FFX). Approves new assets and reconciles fixed assets monthly. Works with Procurement and Inventory Control Coordinator to conduct the annual physical inventory of controlled and capital assets.
- Assists in the preparation of the Annual Financial Report, including being the lead preparer of the fixed assets schedules and entry into the Comptroller’s capital assets module, CANNS. Assists with gathering information and preparing various other financial reports.
- On an annual basis, reviews the data provided by System Office of potential 1099’s to be issued on behalf of the University and makes final determination.
- In all assignments, assures compliance with accounting standards, and University and System policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Four years of related experience.
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software. Oral and written communication skills. Customer service and problem solving skills.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
