Primary Purpose of Position:

The primary purpose of this position is to transmit Direct Loan and Alternative loan files to the Department of Education and ELM Resources daily. This position will also process all errors and rejects associated with file transmission. This position will be responsible for all alternative loan changes and returning all alternative loan funds back to ELM Resources or the borrower’s lender. This position will serve as a back-up to the other Loan Specialists for processing Federal Direct PLUS loans, private/alternative loans and all loan requested changes from borrowers. This position will provide assistance to parents and students regarding federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs which includes help with completion of forms and other materials. This position will provide general administrative support to the Sr. Assistant Director of Loans.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school and one year of related office experience; or an equivalent combination of education
and experience.

University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from high school and demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through three years of specialized office experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provides financial aid information through various modes of communication (telephone, email and in person) to our clients.
  • Provides basic information regarding financial aid policies and procedures to prospective students, parents, callers and visitors.
  • Communicates information and will also assist students in completing forms and documents.

Other Work Responsibilities:

  • This is an entry level position in the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Provides internal support to the loan team on a daily basis.
  • Ensures that student information is promptly made available to others in the department who may also be reviewing the customer’s records.
  • Must be able to work in a Imaging environment.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

  • Prior experience in a University Financial Aid Office.
  • Banner experience.
  • ImageNow experience.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills required.
  • Ability to work professionally with customers, in a face to face office environment.
  • Knowledge of Federal Title IV and state regulations or experience working in a similar capacity within higher education.
  • Knowledge of Financial Aid management systems including Banner and ELMONE.
  • Must be detailed oriented, with the ability to self manage multiple projects while working under deadlines during peak times of the year.
  • Must have a strong commitment to customer service and student services.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
