Description

The ACT Job Coach provides high quality customer service, such as skills training, case management, mentoring, job search assistance, placement, career development, retention, and career advancement to DVRS and DDD consumers while meeting the needs of the businesses. In addition, the ACT Job Coach assists credit and non-credit students with special needs at Rowan College South Jersey, particularly students in the Adult Center for Transition program in their efforts of becoming active, wage-earning members of the workforce by generating positive employment and/or vocational experiences with ongoing support, in addition to completing job duties mandated by the Division of Developmental Disabilities regarding supported employment, pre-vocation instruction and career training.

Examples of Duties

  • Applies knowledge of program goals, labor market information, internet-based tools, wage and trend information regarding high growth and high wage industries and occupations, and workplace needs.
  • Engages consumers and establishes trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community settings.
  • Provides education and support to employers/organizations as agreed upon by consumers, which may include negotiating job accommodations.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation mandated by the New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, the Division of Developmental Disabilities, and Rowan College of South Jersey.
  • Conducts job development and job search activities directed toward positions that are individualized to the interests and uniqueness of the consumers.
  • Performs task/job analysis at the job site to break down the job responsibilities into teachable components and provides appropriate accommodations.
  • Advocates for the individual with disabilities, including fostering of co-worker relationships.
  • Applies knowledge of program goals, labor market information, internet-based tools, wage and trend information regarding high growth and high wage industries and occupations, and workplace needs.
  • Communicates with jobsite and acts as a liaison, if necessary, between employee and employer.
  • Monitors and gauges customer progress through frequent communication with the employer.
  • Monitors consumers’ safety at the work site.
  • Assists consumers in developing effective communication and proper workplace behavior/dress code.
  • Maintains open communication with Director regarding customer progress.
  • Attends staff meetings/in-services as needed. Attends required trainings.
  • Assists with presentations and job fairs relating to employment activities.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree with 2 years’ experience in Special Education field required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Valid driver’s license, which is currently in good standing
  • Ability to travel to multiple educational institutions, utilizing personal vehicle for travel
  • Minimum age of 18 years old
  • Experience in providing DVRS services to consumers.
  • Experience working with special needs individuals.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with prospective and current students, staff, faculty, administration, and colleagues and community partners
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment
  • If certain conditions exist, this position requires you to have access to personal technological equipment and capabilities to perform your duties.
