Special Information

This position is an administrator responsible for the day-to-day operations of a NCAA Division I women's soccer program in the Big Sky Conference.

Job Description

Oversight (50%)

• Hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches
• Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes
• Prepare and implement training (skill instruction) and conditioning plans to develop student-athletes athletically
• Prepare and implement game strategy and management for successful outcomes
• Serve as a resource for and provide guidance to student-athletes
• Promote an atmosphere of compliance within the program and monitor the activities of all institutional staff members who are directly or indirectly supervised

Administrative (40%)

• Manage team budget including but not limited to recruiting and team travel
• Manage roster and scholarships
• Build competitive NCAA Division I non-conference schedule
• Schedule facilities for training and competition with support from Facilities
• Purchase equipment and apparel for team needs with support from Equipment Operations
• Monitor academic eligibility and promote retention and graduation of student-athletes with support from Academic Services

Support (5%)

• Support the vision and mission of NAU Athletics
• Build relationships with alumni, fans, donors, and the Flagstaff community to assist with marketing and fundraising efforts

Miscellaneous (5%)

• Serve on university, conference, or national committees

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required
• Five (5) years of women's soccer coaching experience at the collegiate level

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree
• Women's soccer head coaching experience at the collegiate level
• U.S. Soccer Coaching License

Adhere to all Northern Arizona University, Big Sky Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations

Ability to interact professionally within the department, campus, and community

Ability to promote soccer in the community and grow relationships with former student-athletes

Skilled in effective organization

Expert knowledge of NCAA soccer and student-athlete soccer development

Budget management knowledge and understanding of the financial aspects of running a soccer program

Capable of fundraising in coordination with the University

Ability to supervise and train employees to include scheduling, supervision, and prioritization of assignments

All coaches have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, Big Sky Conference, and NAU with truthful and complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations as mandated by NCAA Bylaw 10.1. Satisfactory rules knowledge and rules compliance are conditions of employment. This position in particular will fully participate and cooperate in compliance-related activities, procedures, and evaluation. Coaches are held to strict NCAA guidelines regarding all of the following:

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. This is an Administrator (ADM) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); 22 days of vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Administrators are hired on a contract basis renewable each year according to terms of the Conditions of Administrative Service. These terms can be found on the Arizona Board of Regents website.
Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
