General Summary

The Application Administrator ensures the proper functioning of applications used by an organization. They provide timely response, diagnosis, and resolution to requests received by the help desk, prepare servers/services, and install and configure server software. They also perform root cause analysis for issue resolution and prevention.

The Application Administrator is a professional in the IT department who is critical to keeping the applications in an organization running. They coordinate with development teams to identify needs and work with network engineers, system administrators (ISU-TS ION, WEB, and Apps Divisions) to design application server environments.

This role will provide support, guidance, and overall administration of systems such as Confluence, SOPPA, Skyward (or similar SIS), Watermark Faculty Success (formerly Digital Measures), TeacherEase, and Google Workspace.

Additional Information

The College of Education and Laboratory technology team provide direct support to K-21 students, staff, and instructors. As a member of our team, you will join in serving teacher education through the support of instruction, teacher preparation, and the systems required to support those services.

Required Qualifications
  1. Any combination totaling two years from the following categories:
    a. Progressively more responsible work experience in an Information Technology (IT)-related profession
    b. College course work in Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
    - 60 semester hours or Associate's degree equals one year
    - 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's degree equals two years
  2. Understanding of relational database concepts, administration, queries, and ability to use one or more common query/reporting tools (SQL Developer, TOAD, Cognos, SSRS, Crystal Reports)
  3. Knowledge and experience working with different Server Operating Systems such as Windows Server (2016 and 2019), Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  4. Knowledge of IT Infrastructure Hardware such as servers, storage, networking, and backups
  5. The ability to write and communicate in a professional manner, especially when communicating technical information to a non-technical audience.
  6. Strong technical aptitude with an understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and software founded on either academic coursework or hands-on experience.
  7. The ability to apply critical thinking to solve complex problems.
  8. Ability to follow established procedures, even in high-pressure and time-sensitive situations.
Desired Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's or advanced degree in IT or related field
  2. Knowledge and experience with source control, issue tracking, and ITSM
  3. Knowledge of Web Server Software such as Apache, IIS, Tomcat, WebLogic
  4. Knowledge of Student Information Systems (Skyward), digital gradebooks, Google Workspace, and mobile device management.
  5. Knowledge of Single Sign-On concepts
  6. Strong project, analysis, and research skills
  7. Knowledge and experience with scripting languages and associated software to leverage, improve, and automate processes (PowerShell, RunDeck, Perl, etc.)
  8. Experience with virtual computing (VMware)
  9. Experience in software testing, including creating test plans, creating test cases, test execution, and documenting defects
  10. Experience with and ability to perform various system administration duties for assigned applications including installation, configuration, system backup, monitoring, and patch management
  11. Experience in education administrative systems
  12. Vendor Certifications like MCP, MCSA, MCSE, Oracle, Google Administration, etc.
  13. Knowledge of web and object-oriented programming languages: HTML, XML/XSL, CSS, PHP, JAVA
Work Hours

Core Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions.
