Position Summary: Supervision of staff - primarily in one of four areas of emphasis: HVAC; Plumbing/Electrical; Carpentry/Remodeling; or Grounds/Transportation - but also crossing into any of the other three areas as needed. To include scheduling, planning and assigning work, approving time sheets, and employee coaching and evaluation. In addition to supervision of staff perform work orders personally as needed. Assist in the formulation of cost estimates and specifications for repair, maintenance and remodeling projects. Also supervise, assist, and inspect outside contractors performing work on campus for the department. Plan for and supervise snow removal when needed.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Five or more years successful experience in the supervision of personnel or resources in a related field.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and ability to coordinate projects and lead staff
  • Ability to diagnose building system problems (or vehicle system problems if transportation emphasis) and determine and implement best solutions
  • Ability to read and understand architectural and mechanical drawings, submittals and schematics
  • Knowledge of national and local building codes
  • Must possess valid driver's license and acceptable driving record to be insured to operate college vehicles

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in related area

     Five years verifiable HVAC maintenance experience in a commercial setting
     Universal CFC license
     Knowledge of computer networks
     Expertise in Building Automation systems, preferably Johnson Controls Metasys and/or Automated Logic brand systems
     Experience in energy conservation project implementation
     Experience in fire alarm system maintenance
     Certified Energy Manager by Association of Energy Engineers or similar designation

    Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:
    • 1. Main duty - Supervision of Maintenance Staff Performance is acceptable when: a. team atmosphere is promoted b. problems are dealt with effectively and according to procedures c. time sheets, leave requests, evaluations, etc. are completed accurately and on time d. safety procedures are followed and re-enforced e. service requests are assigned promptly, completion is followed up on and requestors are kept informed f. supervise staff outside of immediate team/area of emphasis as needed
    • 2. Main duty - Fiscal Responsibility Performance is acceptable when: a. assists with budget management, specification writing, when needed b. established purchasing procedures are followed c. supplies are purchased; work is scheduled, and all business is conducted with obtaining the most value for JCCC as a goal d. energy usage and cost is considered in all decision making
    • 3. Main duty - Cooperation and attitude Performance is acceptable when: a. professional approach is used with direct reports, co-workers, supervisors, vendors and the campus community b. direction and work assignments are received with a positive attitude and completed or followed up on in a timely manner without multiple reminders c. ideas or suggestions that will improve the College's or this department's efficiency are expressed and/or implemented
    • 4. Main duty - Job Knowledge Performance is acceptable when: a. maintains trade specific skills to perform duties and supervise in area of emphasis b. follows trade specific technologies and standards c. strives to stay current and up to date as technologies change and advance

    Working at Johnson County Community College

    With more than 34,000 students enrolled in credit and continuing education classes each semester, Johnson County Community College is the state's third largest institution of higher education and the largest of its 19 community colleges.

    JCCC offers a full range of undergraduate credit courses that form the first two years of most college curricula. The college has more than 100 transfer agreements with area colleges and universities that ensure admittance to specific programs such as business, engineering and education. JCCC students are able to begin their first two years of a four-year degree program here and complete that degree on schedule.

    In addition, more than 50 one- and two-year career and certificate programs prepare students to enter the job market in high-employment fields. The college maintains extensive student support services such as computer labs, math labs, a writing center and a learning center.

    JCCC’s continuing education program is the largest, most comprehensive in the Kansas City area. Through the Center for Business and Technology, participants can take courses in management and computer application or seminars and workshops that lead to professional certification and licensure.
