Assistant Professor in Mathematical Data Science

The Department of Mathematics, in the College of Arts and Sciences, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with research interests in the area of Mathematical Data Science, with applications in emerging domains such as Financial Mathematics and Mathematical Economics. We seek outstanding applicants with a demonstrated track record of excellence in research and teaching. Successful candidates are expected to develop vigorous, extramurally-funded research programs in their areas of expertise, actively participate in the Department's teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Collaboration with the existing HU Center for Applied Data Science and Analytics (CADSA) faculty on data science research is also expected. Evidence of interest and success in mentoring underrepresented students is highly desired.

The Department of Mathematics currently consists of thirty-eight (38) faculty members, conducting pure and applied research with specializations in Algebra, Analysis including Dynamical Systems and PDEs, Applied Mathematics including Mathematical Biology, Combinatorics, Probability and Statistics, Differential Geometry and Topology, and Number Theory. It offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in AA with foci in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistical Sciences.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or Statistical Sciences from an accredited institution;
  • Record of scholarship, teaching, and professional service commensurate with the rank of Assistant Professor;
  • Effective communication and organizational skills; and
  • Evidence of successful grant writing experience.
