Organizational Unit Overview:ECU is located in Greenville, North Carolina. The Elementary Education and Middle Grades Education department is one of six departments within the College of Education. The College of Education houses five centers and institutes, including the ECU Community School and Rural Education Institute. ECU is accredited based on NCATE standards and is currently seeking accreditation by CAEP standards in Spring 2022. The department includes both Elementary Education and Middle Grades Education programs.
The Elementary Education program offers both undergraduate and graduate programs, including a Bachelor of Science K-6 licensure program and a Master of Arts in Education with a Master’s level K-6 elementary teaching license. The department provides courses for candidates obtaining a residency license in North Carolina. Concentrations for the MAEd in Elementary Education include Academically and Intellectually Gifted, Early Childhood, Teacher Leadership, and Teaching Children in Poverty. Additionally, a Teaching Children in Poverty graduate certificate program and Academically Gifted add-on license are available. Faculty in the department engage in regular collaboration and leadership with the shared goal of producing quality teachers.
The Department of Elementary Education and Middle Grades Education in the College of Education at East Carolina University is seeking applications and nominations for a fixed term, nine-month, full-time faculty position available January 2023, or August 2023. Title and salary are commensurate with qualifications.
Responsibilities include teaching K-6 elementary courses in curriculum, language arts methods, and/or classroom management on campus, off campus, and/or online; recruit and advise students; work on collaborative curriculum revisions; and serve on committees. Candidates will supervise practicum experiences and/or internships and provide service to the university, community, and profession. Other duties as assigned by the department chair.
Contingent upon availability of funding.
Requires Master of Arts in Education in elementary education, curriculum and instruction; Master of Arts in Teaching; or related field (including but not limited to curriculum and teaching, teacher education, early childhood education, middle grades education, child development, literacy education, social studies education, educational psychology or educational leadership); teaching experience in an elementary public school setting; and eligibility for master’s level NC teaching licensure.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation :Current or Eligibility for NC Teaching Licensure
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :Experience working with at risk children/poverty, experience teaching and/or project development at the college level, and some evidence of teaching effectiveness.
