Job Summary

This position provides primary support for pressure-washing duties for the main UWG and Newnan campus facilities. In addition to performing pressure-washing functions, this position will supervise a 2-3-person pressure-washing team. Supervision responsibilities include but are not limited to: scheduling daily tasks, consistently performing quality control functions, and motivating exceptional performance from all subordinates. This role also provides grounds keeping and landscape maintenance support for university facilities. Employees perform a variety of duties in the care of campus grounds including mowing lawns, trimming trees and bushes, watering flowers and shrubbery. Employees walk assigned areas of campus, collecting and removing trash from campus grounds. Work is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments. Work is routine and repetitive in nature, and is performed subject to close review and inspection, with problems and special assignments not covered by instructions referred to a supervisor. Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as planting trees, flowers, and bushes, raking and bagging leaves. Duties may include spraying lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides, and learning to operate groundskeeping and maintenance equipment. Employee demonstrates an understanding of and maintains conditions that ensure a healthy and safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Position requires a pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

Primary: This position provides primary support for pressure-washing duties for the main UWG and Newnan campus facilities. In addition to performing pressure-washing functions, this position will supervise a 2-3-person pressure-washing team. Supervision responsibilities include but are not limited to: scheduling daily tasks, consistently performing quality control functions, and motivating exceptional performance from all subordinates. Provides care for campus grounds including mowing lawns, watering flowers and shrubbery, trimming trees and bushes, etc. Pressure washing campus sidewalks, entrance ways, outdoor furniture and buildings. Works alone or with a team to complete special assignments related to indoor and outdoor projects. Plants trees, flowers, and bushes; rakes and bags leaves.

Duties: Walks assigned area of campus, collecting and removing trash from campus grounds. Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides. Assists in inclement weather duties as assigned when needed (such as clearing snow from sidewalks and other campus areas).

Equipment Operations: Participates in department-provided training and learning opportunities to develop work-related skills and abilities. Completes all required training on a timely basis. Learns and trains subordinates to operate groundskeeping and maintenance equipment, such as lawnmower, trimmer, and pressure washers for cleaning of campus fountain, outdoor furniture and other campus areas.

Safety and Training: Recognizes and obtains required tools, equipment, materials, and supplies that are needed to do the job. Maintains proper stock, parts, tools, and safety equipment in the assigned storage areas. Works with others to keep vehicles and employee work areas clean and orderly. Recognizes, follows, and trains subordinates on the prescribed safety procedures and

regulations. Participates in department-provided training and learning opportunities to develop work-related skills and abilities. Completes all required training on a timely basis. Ensure subordinates also participates and completes all training requirements and encourages staff participation in learning opportunities designed to enhance each individual’s skill sets.

Communication: Demonstrates effective communication, strong listening skills, professionalism, respect, courteously, friendliness and problem-solving skills, when interacting with faculty, staff, students, guests, peers, and subordinates

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
High School diploma or GED

Required Experience
One-year experience in both landscape and general maintenance. Pesticide applicators license is preferred but not required. Position requires a pre-employment drug test.

Preferred Qualifications

Pressure Washing experience preferred at time of employment along with pesticide applicators license being preferred but not required at time of employment.
