Associate/Full Professor, Interdisciplinary Humanities - College of Liberal and Fine Arts

The College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA) is on an accelerated trajectory of transformation and growth fueled by three major drivers: reimagining the humanities, recommitting to arts education, and bolstering social science research. COLFA has established a new School of Art and a new School of Music and is moving forward with the establishment of a new interdisciplinary School designed to further collaborative engagement and discovery around the intersections of grand challenges facing society and the human experience. Salary
Salary Range: Salary and supporting start-up packages are competitive and commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Hours per Week
Exempt Position: 40 hours per week.

    Essential Functions
    The College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA) at the University of Texas at San Antonio seeks to hire an associate or full professor of Interdisciplinary Humanities. We seek an established scholar in any humanities field with a substantive record of interdisciplinary engagement and a history of successful grantsmanship. The scholar will have a vision of the multiple applications of the liberal arts to the grand challenges that our world faces today and will have the ability to converse across disciplinary boundaries about these themes. The successful candidate will shepherd the creation of new and exciting degree programs that captivate student interest and contribute meaningfully to experiential learning in COLFA with an emphasis on team teaching, community service learning, and study abroad/study away.

    This position is central to our vision of reimagining the humanities and the social sciences. The candidate will be housed in the college's newest academic unit – the interdisciplinary school. The interdisciplinary school will serve as the home of medical humanities and other existing interdisciplinary programs in COLFA, and will provide a platform for the development of new programs in environmental and sustainability; media, arts, and performance; borderlands and global humanities; as well as digital humanities and social sciences. We are looking for candidates who will enhance this focus. We are particularly interested in applicants who will contribute to the College's commitment to increasing access and opportunities for populations that are currently under-represented in the humanities and social sciences, including members of racialized communities, persons with disabilities, women, and persons who identify as LGBTQ+.

    Responsibilities include:
  • Contributing to the development of the new Interdisciplinary School
  • Teaching undergraduate courses in field of specialization and topical graduate courses in areas of specialization
  • Research and service in a program that offers a B.A. degree.

    Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a humanities field
  • Theoretically motivated research
  • An established record of teaching, research, and service appropriate to the rank of Associate or Full Professor
  • Program development experience
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in collaborative teaming and/or transdisciplinary research
  • The ability and desire to work collegially with faculty from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • The ability to work with, and be sensitive to, the educational needs of students from a diverse urban population.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong potential for securing external funding
  • Ability to complement existing faculty specializations
  • Active research program
  • Preferred candidates will be able to successfully teach and mentor diverse, underserved students, including students of color and non-traditional students, and have the ability to contribute to the university's commitment to inclusive excellence as a Hispanic Serving Institution

    Working Conditions
    On Campus: Primary work location will be on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
