Organizational Unit Overview:East Carolina University is a public doctoral/research university in Greenville, North Carolina, with an enrollment of nearly 29,000 students. It is the fourth largest university in North Carolina. ECU offers 85 bachelor’s degree programs, 72 master’s degree programs, 19 doctoral degrees, the Brody School of Medicine and School of Dental Medicine.
The School of Music, in the College of Fine Arts and Communication, has an enrollment of over 250 music majors and minors with over 50 faculty and staff. The school is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
The School of Music seeks to fill a tenure-track, nine-month, full-time faculty position beginning August 2023. Primary responsibilities will be to teach the undergraduate core music history sequence (currently three semesters) that involves a critical writing component, graduate music research and advanced history seminars, survey courses for non-majors, and committee service within the School of Music. Additional responsibilities, based on candidate’s area of interest or expertise, may include early music collegium/historical performance practice.

PhD in Musicology required (qualified ABD candidates considered). Applicants must demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching and an established record of engagement in research/creative activity in their discipline.
ABD candidates will be appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to his/her first reappointment.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education :PhD in Historical Musicology preferred. Expertise in early music performance desirable.
