Position Summary:

The Education Program Coordinator is responsible for managing, training, and coordinating the activities of volunteers for various educational programs. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.

Duties & Responsibilities:

    Coordinate, in conjunction with office staff, racial/ethnic/education programming as needed, including Native American Heritage month, Hispanic Heritage month, Black History month, etcCoordinate, in conjunction with office staff, women and gender programsCoordinate, in conjunction with office staff, non-traditional student programsTrain student leaders on program planning strategiesLead event marketing for the center (daily digest, campus calendar, student app, social media flyers, Multicultural Center website)Coordinate the annual A-State Connection eventRecruit, hire, train and advise multicultural ambassadors and multicultural student organizationsCoordinate diversity trainings as neededCoordinate office assessment projectsMeet weekly with student programmersSubmit monthly reports of the center activities to supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of training course development, needs assessment, and course planning
Knowledge of instructional techniques
Knowledge of the principles and practices of journalism
Knowledge of supervisory practices and techniques
Knowledge of educational principles and learning concepts

Ability to develop and present training programs
Ability to write educational articles for publication
Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates
Ability to compile information and write reports

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday
9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of an earned Bachelor's Degree

Arkansas State, founded in 1909, is the second-largest university in the state. It is located on Crowley’s Ridge in Jonesboro, the largest city in eastern Arkansas and the economic hub of the region. A Carnegie Research 2 university, A-State hosts the first osteopathic medical school in Arkansas, the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine, and opened the first U.S.-style residential campus in Mexico in fall of 2017.

 

With the Discover 2025 Strategic Plan as its guide, A-State is engaged in creating collaboration opportunities including the Center for No-Boundary Thinking and exploring a public-private partnership to bring the first College of Veterinary Medicine to the state.

A-State begins its second decade offering online curriculum and course work, and remains the state’s largest provider of 100% online degree programs based in the state with 99 areas of study. Arkansas State University operates as a member of the Arkansas State University System based in Little Rock and offers degrees at the doctoral, specialist, master’s, bachelor, and associate levels. Arkansas State is home to eight undergraduate colleges: Agriculture, Engineering and Computer Science; Education and Behavioral Science; Neil Griffin College of Business; Liberal Arts and Communication; Nursing and Health Professions; Sciences and Mathematics; and University College. While it does not award degrees, the Honors College is a component of the university’s academic structure. The Department of Military Science provides programs for students who aspire to be U.S. Army officers.

 

The Jonesboro campus is led by the chancellor, with a Chancellor’s Cabinet which includes the senior executive vice chancellor and provost in Academic Affairs and Research, senior vice chancellor for Finance and Administration, vice chancellors for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Relations; Intercollegiate Athletics; Student Affairs and Dean of Students; University Advancement; and Chief Communications Officer.

 

The Arkansas State University System is governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to serve staggered seven-year terms. The trustees hire the system president, approve the curriculum, annually approve an operating budget, and establish policies for the efficient and effective operation of the institutions.
