Position Summary:

The PR Coordinator coordinates and participates in the implementation of public relations activities in support of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. It develops content, including stories, features, newsletters and social campaigns, to publicize and promote services and programs for general and specialized audiences. This employee works as part of a creative team in the Office of Communications contributing to communications and related efforts for the Institute of Government.

Further, the employee directly supports the Institute’s strategic goals. This role works within the Office of Communications to develop content that best supports strategic messaging, providing innovative solutions to showcase institute programs and services.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

  • Superior writing and communication skills demonstrated through a portfolio of written work.
  • Thorough knowledge of public relations practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to write, edit and coordinate production of materials for print and electronic publication.
  • Interact effectively with the public and media representatives as well as UGA faculty and staff.
  • Coordinate the work of other staff engaged in public relations duties.
  • Skill in the coordination of special events.
  • Ability to understand and follow protocol.
  • High level of political acumen.
  • Demonstrate a high level of emotional intelligence.
  • Excellent communications and writing skills.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and develops internal and external promotions, including planning and writing news and feature articles, editing copy and supervising the publication of materials in print and online.
  • Researches and writes pieces of varying depth and style.
  • Identifies new material and channels and ensures effectiveness of public relations/communications efforts.

  • Conceptualizes and works with Institute faculty and staff to develop communications materials and deliverables, including promotions, newsletters and reports.
  • Contributes to and assists with the development of content for a variety of channels, including social media and websites.
  • Provides expertise to assess appropriate format and delivery for target audiences, market interest and need.
