Description of Position:
This part-time academic position is in the Counseling Department, within the Division of Student Services. The major responsibility is to provide comprehensive counseling services to a diverse, multicultural student population. Counseling services include all aspects of academic, transfer, career and personal counseling. This position will serve STUDENT ATHLETES.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications (earned degrees must be from an accredited college/university):

1. A Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling,

psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development OR

2. A valid lifetime California Community College Counseling Credential OR

3. A valid California Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) license, OR

4. The equivalent. (If you are applying for equivalency, please complete the equivalency form at the end of the job application.)

Desirable Qualifications:
· Possess an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.· At least one year of experience, post Master’s degree, working as an Athletic Counselor in a California community college.· Knowledge of athletic compliance requirements with ability to assure adherence to CCCAA, NCAA, NAIA and District rules and regulations as they relate to student athletes.· Proven ability to support and lead efforts to assist in retention and success of community college students.· Demonstrated understanding of the comprehensive nature of California community college counseling, which includes providing high quality academic, career, and personal counseling, both one-on-one and through teaching, including but not limited to developing educational plans specific to student athletes.· Experience teaching and designing curriculum for college-level courses and/or workshops in areas such as college success, career planning/exploration, educational planning, and personal development, including but not limited to curriculum directly supporting student athletes.· Knowledge of the California community college transfer process to public and private four-year institutions both within and outside of California.
· Experience providing information about, and referrals to, campus-based support programs such as DSPS, EOPS, transfer, tutoring, career services, financial aid, etc.
