Job Summary

The Senior Data Analyst will report directly to the Dean of the School of Public Health and Health Sciences (SPHHS), and work with Associate Deans, Department Chairs, University Offices, including Institutional Research, SPHHS alumni, faculty, staff and other stakeholders to develop and implement assessment procedures. In coordination with the Dean's office, the Senior Data Analyst will be responsible for the assessment of learning, research and outreach related to its undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and faculty and staff. The Senior Data Analyst will gather, analyze, and interpret data necessary for continuous process improvement in areas such as curriculum, career and professional development activities, research, workforce development, alumni, school ranking efforts, recruiter and student satisfaction, student placement and tracking, in-state and out-of-state student recruitment, and other initiatives in alignment with SPHHS's overall strategic goals. The Senior Data Analyst also will plan and manage the SPHHS's ongoing data collection, analysis, and reporting related to accreditation, and other academic and outreach needs.

Essential Functions

  • Identifies sources of relevant data, required statistical techniques and appropriate analytical software. Executes analyses using sophisticated analytical software.
  • Maintains databases and translates data into user-friendly formats. Makes recommendations related to research, accreditation, rankings and school-wide opportunities for continuous improvement in all academic, research, outreach and operational areas.
  • Researches and prepares information and reports using statistical and historical data for faculty research and teaching productivity; student success metrics; student, faculty and alumni surveys; accreditation annual reports and reviews; strategic plans; benchmarking from various data sources such as US reports, Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health, UMass Research and Engagement and Office of Institutional Research and Planning.
  • Identifies, sources, and prepares reports of key organizational metrics and trends in research and education to SPHHS leadership for promotional activities including those related to development, alumni relations, and faculty and staff productivity. Consults with Dean, Associate Deans, Department Chairs and Department Head, and faculty and staff on continuous improvement opportunities to inform decision-making.
  • Maintains and continues to improve data collection and documentation procedures by determining what information is needed and what is available through the Office of Institutional Research, and other sources. Works in concert with the recruitment coordinator to assess recruiter relations.
  • Develops and shapes institutional accreditation processes and stays current on best practices. Coordinates timeline for completion of all tasks associated with accreditation and rankings. Cultivates relationships with academic departments, accreditation officials and rankings institutions.
  • Supports academic departments and SPHHS staff by providing training on data collection and management, and policies and procedures to meet accreditation and rankings requirements.

Other Functions

  • Performs related duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Executive Area/Division, and University goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3+ years of related experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and reporting OR Master's Degree in Health Sciences, Math, Statistics, Computer Science or related field and 1+ years of related experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and reporting OR PhD in Biostatistics (new graduates are encouraged to apply).
  • Thorough knowledge of statistical methods and proficiency in the use of analytical software including Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in assessing, developing and reengineering processes.
  • Commitment to ideals of continuous improvement, supported by outstanding analytical, administrative and communication skills.
  • Ability to work across all levels of multidimensional organization as an agent of change.
  • Ability to learn SPHHS's educational and research philosophy, curricula and institutional programs, specifically pertaining to the undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Ability to successfully execute initiatives in a higher education setting.
  • Proficiency with Survey Software and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically spreadsheet and database skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.
  • Ability to keep strict confidentiality practices.

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Previous experience using advanced statistical analysis software such as SAS or SPSS.

Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours/week.
  • This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee’s work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.
