Job Summary

Perform environmental health and safety training and facility inspections for compliance with policy, procedures, regulations and standards to provide safety of students, faculty and staff. Assist with coordinating environmental safety investigations, training, projects and maintaining records. Provide support and coordination regarding environmental compliance requirements.

This position will interact on a regular basis: Institute management, faculty and staff, and representatives of regulatory agencies.

This position typically will advise and counsel: Institute management and staff.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Participate with the implementation and management of the environmental health and safety management system


Job Duty 2 -
Participate in the development of environmental compliance programs


Job Duty 3 -
Perform environmental investigations and sampling, including asbestos, lead based paint, mold, and water quality


Job Duty 4 -
Coordinate asbestos abatement projects and mold remediation projects, including managing contracts and maintaining records


Job Duty 5 -
Conduct training and technical outreach as deemed appropriate


Job Duty 6 -
Maintain and manage detailed environmental records


Job Duty 7 -
Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Safety Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field

Other Required Qualifications
Certifications or licenses required for this job:
One or more of the following certifications are required at the time of hire: AHERA Asbestos Project Supervisor, AHERA Asbestos Inspector; Mold Assessment & Remediation

Required Experience
Two to three years of job-related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's Degree in Public Health or related field

Preferred Experience
Four to five years of job-related experience. Previous experience working in higher education setting

Proposed Salary

$16.71 - $22.73

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES
Ability to multitask on assignments/projects. Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions, interpret campus maps and basis drawings. Ability to wear the appropriate safety and protective equipment including medical clearance for respirator use. Must be able to work cooperatively, manage projects and be willing to create and conduct training seminars. Must be able to understand environmental recordkeeping regarding construction, demolition, and renovation projects.

KNOWLEDGE
Strong knowledge of environmental permitting and regulatory agencies. An understanding of environmental program systems, compliance monitoring tools and familiarity with reporting processes.

SKILLS
Proficient in related computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office suite). Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, technology, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills. Strong attention to detail, organizational, and follow up skills Strong customer service skills and phone etiquette.
