Under the general supervision of the Director, Special Resource Center (Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS), provides a variety of professional services for students with broad range of physical, visual and psychiatric disabilities. Provides disability verification through analysis of documentation, develop educational plan and authorize educational accommodations. Instructs courses designed for students with physical and mental disabilities and visual impairments and develops instructional materials to meet their needs. Meets scheduling needs at off-campus sites, day, evening or weekend classes. Communicates effectively both orally, by phone and in writing, with campus faculty, staff and administration and community entities (Department of Rehabilitation, Independent Living Centers, etc.); compiles data and prepares reports; conducts campus and community liaison activities on behalf of the Disabled Student Programs and Services; advocates for students with faculty, staff, campus and off-campus agencies; serve on college and community committees; maintain a current knowledge base by participation in professional development activities; performs other related duties as assigned.
Master's in the category of the disability, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology or rehabilitation counseling and 15 upper division or graduate semester units in area of physical disabilities, visual disabilities, adaptive computer technology, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities; deaf and hard of hearing; OR
The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above, must explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR
Valid California Community College instructor credential authorizing teaching in disability (per California Education Code 87355 issued prior to July 1, 1990); AND
Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and of individuals with disabilities.
Master's degree in Deaf Education OR Master's degree in special education with an emphasis on Deaf Education.
Sign Language Proficiency equivalent to a score of 4 or higher on the ASLPI.
Ability to teach Educational Development courses for the deaf.
Previous teaching or counseling experience with individuals with disabilities.

Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester. The rate is $54.56 - $65.74 per hour depending on education and experience.

Part-time non-instructional assignment(s) for the 2023 spring semester, beginning February 2023. Assignments may include off-site locations.
