Description:

The Environmental Studies Department at Dartmouth seeks applicants for a full-time tenure-track assistant professorship in Interdisciplinary Ecosystem Science. Qualified candidates should have a strong foundation in biophysical ecosystem science while also addressing challenges in environmental justice, human health and well-being, and/or environmental disparities in marginalized communities. Applicants should have a research and teaching program that employs field- and lab-based methodologies. We welcome applicants specializing in any relevant subfield of ecosystem science.  We also welcome applicants working in a wide variety of ecosystem types; we particularly encourage applicants who could take advantage of Dartmouth’s expertise and resources in polar systems.

Current faculty in the Environmental Studies Department seek to produce policy- and society-relevant research that address local to global scale challenges. Teaching opportunities at the undergraduate level include courses in the broad area of environmental science and global change from introductory to advanced levels, tailored to the candidate’s research interests. Faculty also participate in Dartmouth's Ph.D. program in Ecology, Evolution, Environment and Society (EEES) through advising and teaching.  For more information about our department and related campus opportunities, visit: https://envs.dartmouth.edu. Please note that tenure-track positions are also open in Geography and Earth Sciences.

The Environmental Studies Department, and Dartmouth as a whole, are highly committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff. We are especially interested in applicants who are able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, and/or first-generation college graduates. Applicants should provide a separate statement of how their teaching, research, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in ecosystem science, ecosystem ecology, environmental science, global change biology, or a closely related field is required. Applicants may be ABD but must have a Ph.D. by the appointment start date. Applicants who demonstrate a capacity to connect their work to the social sciences and policy are especially encouraged. Applications from current assistant professors are also welcomed.

We are especially interested in candidates who have a demonstrated ability to contribute to Dartmouth’s undergraduate diversity initiatives in STEM research, such as the Women in Science ProgramE. E. Just STEM Scholars Program, the Academic Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (ASURE) and the EEES Scholars Program
