Position Description:
The mission of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is to support undergraduate, graduate and professional school student development, empowerment and success through connection with dedicated diverse staff who provide mental health services that encourage Health, Healing, and Hope. CAPS strives to provide:
1. Short-term, high-quality culturally affirming mental health treatment including assessment, consultation and case management; group and individual therapy; and psychiatry services.
2. Culturally responsive community mental health training and wellness education in collaboration with the Resilience in your Student Experience (RISE) Center.
3. Training and professional development for mental health providers that emphasizes inclusive support and care for diverse clients.
4. Connection to diverse community resources and referrals.

The Crisis Evaluation & Response in the Field (CERF) team serves as the campus mobile mental health crisis response team. The CERF team provides mental health services to UCLA students as well as consultation services to faculty, staff, and the campus community. Services are designed to assist students in optimizing their educational experience, minimizing risks, including risk of harm to self or others, minimizing impact of psychiatric illness and emotional distress on students' academic careers by coordinating mental health care through a network of campus and community resources.

The CERF Team supports students in crisis to provide stabilization in the least restrictive manner possible, reduce repeat crises/hospitalizations, reduce Law Enforcement contact for psychiatric emergencies, manage crises through collaboration between clinician and student, and linkage to appropriate campus and community resources. CERF clinicians respond to mental health emergencies, while working collaboratively and in a coordinated fashion with police and security officers during field work. CERF clinicians provide individual field based crisis intervention, risk assessment, hospitalization assessment and coordination, referrals and linkage. CERF clinicians also deploy to provide postvention response to impacted students in the case of adverse events within the campus community.

CERF clinicians work full time between hours of 10AM and 12 midnight (or hours set forth per pilot program) and may serve on-call outside of CERF coverage hours.

Under the supervision of the CAPS Executive Director or designee, the CERF Director supports the mission of CAPS and the University in providing the highest quality mental health services for the wide range of students at UCLA. The CERF Director has full programmatic responsibility for the CERF program and will sit as part of the CAPS broader leadership team.

The incumbent recruits, trains, and supervises the CERF Team of licensed mental health professionals. The incumbent performs a wide range of complex tasks including counseling and crisis intervention with students; consultation, outreach, prevention and mental health education on campus; and emergency services. The incumbent participates in meetings and committees; and carries out necessary charting, data reporting, and incident reporting requirements. In addition, the incumbent performs supervision of mental health services; program development and quality improvement activities.

The incumbent accepts overall direction from the Executive Director or designee. The incumbent acts in a manner consistent with their relevant licensure code of ethics, in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA requirements, and in accordance with CAPS Policies and laws governing mental health practices in the State of California.
