UCLA School of Law invites applications for a full-time position as an Assistant Dean for Experiential Education and Assistant Teaching Professor/Teaching Professor of Law (Assistant Dean). This is a full-time faculty position with security of employment or potential for security of employment to begin on July 1, 2023.

The position of Assistant Dean requires a talented and enthusiastic individual to build and oversee the operational excellence of UCLA Law's clinical and experiential education program.

The Assistant Dean will report to and work under the general direction of the Vice Dean for Curricular and Academic Affairs (Vice Dean) to plan and oversee the law school's experiential curriculum, including clinics and simulation-based skills courses. The Assistant Dean will supervise faculty teaching in the experiential program and will be responsible for building and maintaining a coherent program of clinical education to ensure the provision of excellent legal services to clients and excellent pedagogical opportunities for students. The Assistant Dean will also work closely with UCLA Law faculty and administrative leaders to conceive of and implement new clinics and simulation-based skills courses, and will regularly teach in the clinical and experiential program.

Applicants must hold a J.D. and be licensed to practice law in California by the end of their first year of employment. Applicants must have demonstrated management, administrative and organizational skills with potential for outstanding teaching achievements. At least five years of demonstrated excellence in clinical teaching experience as well as additional legal practice experience is strongly preferred. Scholars from all areas of interest are encouraged to apply.

This position is a full-time academic appointment in the Teaching Professor series. Teaching Professors are Academic Senate faculty members whose expertise and responsibilities center on teaching, as well as scholarly analysis and improvement of teaching methods. The appointment, merit, and promotion in the Teaching Professor series requires, in addition to excellence in teaching, service to the University and public, and that the candidate make contributions in research or professional activity, especially as they relate to instruction and pedagogy. Salary and level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position has an expected start date of July 1, 2023, and is subject to the rules and regulations of the Regents of the University of California, which are mostly embodied in The UCLA CALL and the University of California Academic Personnel Manual.
