ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF SPANISH

The Department of World Languages and Cultures seeks a full-time, tenure track, Assistant Professor of Spanish beginning August 2023.

Successful candidates will have a Ph.D., or D.M.L. in Spanish or closely related field; and native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English.  Preference will be given to candidates with an expertise in Peninsular Literature and Culture.  Additional expertise in language pedagogy and college level teaching experience desired.

Responsibilities include teaching Spanish at the introductory and intermediate levels.  The teaching load is 4/3 per academic year.  Candidates must be willing to participate in extra-curricular activities (such as the World Language Club) to help promote enrollment and participation in the World Language and Cultures program, Spanish major, and Study Abroad programs.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Bridgewater College was founded in 1880 as the first coeducational college in Virginia. Bridgewater offers bachelor’s degrees in approximately 60 majors and minors, along with four graduate programs, pre-professional programs such as medicine and law, and teacher licensure. The College is a member of NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, with 23 intercollegiate athletic teams. The vibrant residential campus is located in the town of Bridgewater, Virginia, near the city of Harrisonburg in the center of the Shenandoah Valley. An excellent school system, healthy business environment, numerous arts and cultural events, one of the state's lowest crime rates, and a variety of outdoor opportunities and historic attractions draw many to the region.
