The University of Florida invites applications for an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) position to work within the Teachers, Schools, and Society (TSS) program area in the School of Teaching and Learning. The TSS program area focuses on issues that impact 21^st century education and teacher education, as faculty and students study the intersections of curriculum, teaching, and teacher education with society and politics in an increasingly diverse world. This position builds upon a rich tradition of excellence in teaching and scholarship on the interrelationships between schools and larger societal contexts.

The successful applicant for the Assistant Professor position is expected to maintain a clear, systematic line of research; regularly seek external funding; publish in major scholarly journals; present research findings at meetings of professional associations; contribute to advising and teaching, especially through the provision of scholarly and conceptual leadership in graduate and undergraduate programs; and recruiting and mentoring doctoral students in both our on-campus research intensive Ph.D. program and online professional practice doctorate. Additionally, the successful applicant will engage in service to the program, school, college, university and profession. This 9-month tenure-accruing faculty appointment will begin August 2023.

Responsibilities:

Conduct scholarly activities commensurate with expectations of a tenure-track faculty member at a research-intensive university

Publish in respected refereed scholarly journals salient to the candidate's line of research

Vigorously pursue external funding

Advise, engage, and mentor graduate students in teaching, research, and outreach activities

Teach (face-to-face, blended, and/or online) courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels

Participate in program development and continuous improvement

Provide service to the program, school, college, university, and the profession

Expected Salary:

Salary is negotiable, competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Social Foundations, or closely related field

Record of scholarship as demonstrated through the securing of external research funding, research publications, and presentations at national conferences (commensurate with experience)

Demonstrated commitment to matters concerning race, class, gender, sexuality, ability, and/or socially-just practices

Commitment to active engagement with and/or leadership in education professional organizations

Evidence of collaboration with faculty, students, and other stakeholders

Evidence of excellence and innovation in teaching, particularly with courses that center equity and social justice

Strong knowledge of research methods

Preferred Qualifications:

Track record of proposing, securing, and successfully managing externally-funded projects

Teaching, research, and/or service experiences with diverse populations

Record of excellence in teaching and/or mentoring students in higher education contexts

Ability to positively contribute to the regional and national visibility of the TSS program

A commitment to working in an interdisciplinary teaching and learning environment

Experience designing and delivering high quality online courses
