Plumber IV
Job Description:
Maintains, tests, repairs, and installs fire sprinkler systems on and off campus, to include fire pumps, jockey pumps, backflow preventers, and air compressors.
Performs work and uses hand tools at ground level and aloft on ladders. Works in attics, basements, crawl spaces, and other similar places. Moves and/or lifts weights such as test equipment, ladders, tools, and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds. Wears appropriate safety equipment and follows established safety practices and procedures. Drives state-owned vehicle periodically to various job sites as required.
Installs and maintains related electrical and mechanical equipment.
Repairs plumbing systems on- and off-campus as needed. Begin and complete NCCER Core Curriculum (if not already completed)
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATION AND OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF LAW
- Backflow preventer certification for repair
- Backflow preventer certification for testing
- State of Florida Class E operator license
- Position requires a post-offer health assessment
- Position requires a criminal background check
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE
- Schedule may vary depending on location
- 40 hours per week
- Emergencies as needed; swing shift and on-call as required
Expected Salary:
$22.00-$25.00 Based on Experience
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma (or equivalent) and four years of appropriate experience in plumbing related work
- Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience
- Currently NCCER Certified in trade or pass NCCER Knowledge Verification and NCCER Plumbing Performance
Verification within 4 months.
- Pass trade specific Critical Task Assessment within 4 months
- Complete NCCER Core within 6 months
Preferred Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE
- Vast knowledge of reading mechanical prints and drawings
- Excellent working knowledge of plumbing distribution and mechanical codes
SKILLS
- Skill in using pipe cutter, reamer, threading machines, and other specialized tools and equipment
ABILITIES
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Ability to solder copper fittings through 4 inches in size without leaks
- Ability to operate propress fitting tools (copper compression and cast iron snap cutters)
- Ability to install, maintain, and repair electric motors, pumps, and other mechanical equipment
- Ability to repair and install water lines from 2-1/2 inches to 12 inches
- Ability to replace diaphragms and test and repair backflow preventers
