The office is lead by an executive director with more than two decades of higher ed admissions experience and a director with extensive experience in high school admissions offices in the US and abroad. This position presents an exceptional opportunity to work with some of the nation’s best students, and to contribute to the development of a college counseling philosophy and strategy based on an individualized approach to students and families, complemented by a reliance on data analysis and the elevation of the tremendous opportunities available to students at RE. We are looking for college counselors who will bring new perspectives to Ransom Everglades, who have extensive and broad knowledge about the research, application, and selection process with selective colleges and universities, and who desire to work with students and families in a collaborative setting.  In addition to the general responsibilities described below, our goal is to bring college counselors to our college counseling office who will specialize in one or more the following areas:


Communications: Manages the general communications of the college counseling office with students and parents, and in conjunction with the school’s Communications Department, with the RE community and external stakeholders.  This includes management of the college counseling social media platforms, creating and maintaining connect for the college counseling pages within the school’s learning management system, and ensuring that lines of communication between RE and colleges and universities are clear and consistent.


Summer Programs/Internships: Aggregates and promotes summer opportunities for students, including college programs, study abroad programs, real-world work experience, and in conjunction with faculty members, internship opportunities.


Data Management and Analysis: Works with the Executive Director to oversee college counseling data management and analysis in a way that informs both the strategy of the office and informs individual students about effective strategies to prepare for and apply to college. Serves as the point person for relationships with Naviance, College Kickstart, Slate and other platforms that rely on and provide data services to the college counseling office.


General Responsibilities


Meets with students concerning all phases of the college process and communicates regularly with students and their parents, guiding students and families through the college search and application process.


Maintains strong relationships with college admission and financial aid officials, keeping them well informed about the offerings and signature programs at RE.


Writes a compelling and detailed counselor letter for college admissions for each RE senior in the caseload.


Maintains periodic communication and provides updates about prospective students with colleges.


Participates in and/or leads summer college counseling programs and workshops.


Assists and/or leads college counseling programming for students, parents and the greater RE community, including school-day, evening and weekend events.


Contributes to regular communications published by the college counseling office.


Travels periodically to attend national conferences and to visit college campuses across the country.


Maintains relevant college counseling databases that aid students and families.


Engages in the school community through teaching, committees, faculty and staff programs, leading co- and extracurricular activities, and/or other such activities.


Provide counsel to faculty advisors and class deans regarding curriculum and student course selections as they pertain to the college process.


Serves as a faculty advisor to students.


Remote work a possibility for the right candidates.


Education, Background, and Skills Requirements


Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree is preferred.


Combined experience of 5 or more years as an admission officer and/or college counselor in selective college admission processes.


Excellent written and oral communication skills.


Social-media savvy and ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders using multiple platforms.


Additional experience as a teacher or coach is preferred.


Skilled in the gathering, and analysis of data, and preparation and delivery of presentations with data and other research tools.


Facility with student learning management systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Workspace.


Experience with Naviance and College Kickstart or related college admissions platform(s).
