Research Scientist Fellow position in the statistical genetics/genetic epidemiology of complex diseases: The successful candidate will participate in genetic epidemiological investigations of diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and infectious diseases and their related traits. Prior research experience involving Mexican and/or Mexican American populations is desirable.


  • The candidate is expected to work as a member of a larger interactive research team with an interest in health issues in ethnically diverse populations such as Mexican/Mexican American and South Asian populations focused on complex diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, and tuberculosis.

  • They will be involved in statistical genetic analysis of various complex data sets (e.g., univariate and bivariate quantitative genetic analyses, linkage analysis, and genome-wide association studies using genome-wide genotypic data and whole genome or exome sequencing data) including large human pedigrees.

  • Previous knowledge and experience in the utilization of general statistical genetics software packages such as SOLAR are a plus.

  • They will write or contribute to scientific papers, aid in grant preparations, and participate in innovative approaches for engaging research participants.

  • Guidance will be provided to develop independent research projects and submit grant applications for extramural grant funding.

Field of Study: Human genetics, Population genetics, Genomic sciences, Molecular biology/genetics, Anthropology, Genetic epidemiology of complex diseases, or their related disciplines.

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. or an equivalent advanced degree.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Prior knowledge and experience in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, bioinformatics, and knowledge of computer programs such as SOLAR are required.
