Aircraft Technician (Aerospace/Flight Support Services-MX)

Position Information: Description

The Aircraft Technician position is responsible for providing UND Aerospace with the safest aircraft by maintaining the highest quality of workmanship and professionalism.  The position will provide the UND Aerospace Maintenance Department with the mechanical skills and expertise required in maintaining a large fleet of aircraft used for flight training.  With a staff of full and part time Aircraft Technicians, the position will also provide scheduled and un-scheduled maintenance in accordance with the requirements of the FAR’s (Federal Aviation Regulations), and to meet the high demands of the Flight training department.

Duties & Responsibilities

Perform 50 hr, 100 hr, annual and progressive Inspection on fixed wing and rotor wing aircraft. (scheduled maintenance).

  • Perform inspection in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations and UND policies and procedures.
  • Research and comply with FAA Airworthiness Directives and regulatory requirements.
  • Determine time life limits for aircraft components
Perform preventative maintenance and discrepancies (un-scheduled maintenance).

  • Correct aircraft discrepancies.
  • Troubleshoot and repair inoperative systems or components.
  • Read and follow manufacturer’s schematics and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Determine correct manufacturer part numbers for replacement for parts.
Perform minor and major alteration and repairs.

  • Determine if a repair is a major or minor repair in accordance with the FAR’s.
  • Complete the form (337) for all major repairs and alterations.
  • Work with local FAA personnel to receive approval for major repairs or alterations.
Accurately complete aircraft records, inspection forms and work orders

  • Accurately complete all work orders/aircraft log books in accordance with the FAR’s.
  • Complete all required check lists.
  • Insure all required “return to service” entries are made in accordance with the FAR’s before and aircraft is returned to Flight Operations.
Required Competencies
  • Good interpersonal/oral/written communication skills.
  • The ability to lift/move bulky or heavy objects, up to 75 pounds.
  • Attention to details.
  • Computer skills.
  • A high level of mechanical aptitude.
  • The ability to read and understand Aviation technical data.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • FAA A&P (Airframe & Powerplant) Certificate.
  • Requires currency requirement of FAR Part 65.83.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Successful completion of criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on Piper single and multi-engine aircraft, Cessna single engine aircraft, and rotary wing aircraft experience.
  • FAA Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technician School education.
  • Experience with FAA 145 Repair Station.
Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$27.48 /hour, Full-time, Non-Exempt, Benefited
