Description:

The Human Biology Program and the Department of Statistical Sciences in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a joint (66% Human Biology in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and 34% in the Department of Statistical Sciences) full-time continuing teaching stream position in the area of Statistics for Life Sciences. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023.

Applicants must have a PhD in a Life Sciences discipline that includes demonstrated excellence in statistics, biostatistics, or data science by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter. A demonstrated record of excellence in Life Science teaching, particularly in biostatistics is also required. Interdisciplinary expertise in human biology (e.g. health and disease, epidemiology, neuroscience or genetics) is an asset. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing strengths in both Human Biology and Statistical Sciences.

Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree granting program at the undergraduate program level including Life Sciences, Statistics and quantitative research methods courses; have experience using and teaching statistical software such as R or Python; and have experience collaborating on quantitative research in human biology, health & disease, human genetics, neuroscience, or global health. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities. Experience working with, teaching, or mentoring diverse groups or diverse students is preferred.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through: teaching accomplishments; awards and accolades; presentations at significant conferences; the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong teaching statement, sample syllabi, course materials and teaching evaluations; as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.

Candidates are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment demonstrated through the application materials.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
