School/Division:

Department:

Population Health

Full-Time or Part-Time:

Full-Time

Description:

Hofstra University, a private, nonsectarian, co-educational institution, seeks qualified applicants for an anticipated full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor faculty position in the Department of Population Health. The successful candidate will join a large and growing undergraduate program in Community Health (BSCH) program to teach, engage in scholarship and service alongside a multi-disciplinary faculty and diverse student body with a deep commitment to enhancing social justice. Primary responsibilities will be in the BSCH program, with some teaching assignments in the BS in Health Science program (BSHS).

Hofstra’s BS in Community Health program prepares students to be scholar-practitioners with a broad knowledge base in concepts of wellness, health promotion and disease prevention, as well as community, public health, and health care service delivery. Emphasis is also given to developing competencies in the assessment of individual and community health needs in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community health programs. It is expected that the BSCH program will transition to a BS in Public Health over the next few years and the new faculty candidate’s profile should support this strategic goal.
The BSCH program is enhanced by the community in which we are located. Nassau County is one of the country’s first suburbs and one of the most culturally, ethnically, and racially diverse communities in the nation.
The Department of Population Health is a vibrant community with over 700 students, 350 undergraduate students in Community Health and Health Science, and another 400 graduate students in our five graduate programs: Master of Public Health, Master of Health Administration, Health Informatics, and Health Professions Education. The Department of Population Health resides in the School of Health Professions and Human Services, along with three other departments: Allied Health and Kinesiology; Counseling and Mental Health Professions and Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences. Thus, there are many exciting opportunities for inter-professional collaboration.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold a PhD, DrPH or MD by August 1, 2023, in Community Health, Public Health, Global Health or a closely related discipline.
  • Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion in an educational environment.

Preferred Quals Summary:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with an established record or demonstrated potential for teaching excellence, collaborative scholarly activity, mentoring students and working with local healthcare and community groups.
