The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for a Senior Director of Academic and Research Communications for the University Communications division. The Division of University Communications is responsible for developing communication strategies and plans and executing communication products that support the overall strategic mission and vision of the University. The departments within this Division include Reputation Management and Communications, Strategic Marketing, and Visual Media Communications and span how the University communicates and engages with internal and external audiences via traditional media, social media, web presence, and executive events.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field. At least seven years of professional communications, marketing, or related experience. At least three years of supervisory experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Significant experience executing integrated communication efforts for a complex, multifaceted organization. Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and consensus building, with a demonstrated ability to partner and lead through influence, across organizational lines. Ability to employ strategic thinking from big-picture goals to specific tactical plans. Experience working in highly collaborative environments requiring interpersonal communication competence, initiative, active listening, and emotional intelligence.

Essential Job Duties: The Senior Director of Academic and Research Communications works with senior leadership in University Communications, Academic Affairs, and Research, this position will lead a team to:
Develop, execute and evaluate high-impact communication plans that support the University’s key strategic initiatives in research and academic programs. Ensure consistent communication standards are delivered across all units within their area of responsibility, and they will provide strategic counsel and support to members of the University leadership team. The position reports directly to the Executive Director of Strategic Communications and consults frequently with the Associate Vice Chancellor for University Communications. The position maintains indirect reporting relationships with the Provost and the Vice Chancellor for Research.
