Full-time Faculty of Illustration

 

The Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD) is seeking a full-time faculty in our Illustration department with the rank dependent on qualifications. The ideal candidate will have significant professional illustration/design experience and networks, as well as an extensive creative skill set (both traditional and digital). The candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of illustration markets, color theory, perspective, character and environment design, visual development, and anatomical figure drawing. Full-time faculty teach six courses an academic year (3 each semester), contribute to departmental and college service, and maintain an active illustration professional practice. The faculty member will be on a renewable multi-year employment agreement that will begin August 1, 2023.

 

The Illustration Department's project-based curriculum provides talented artists, designers, and storytellers with the tools to foster successful careers and practices in a variety of creative fields. This position will collaborate with a variety of departments to develop and revise pedagogies of engagement that incorporate diverse cultural and gender content and perspectives. Such collaboration provides a robust education that prepares diverse students technically, conceptually, and professionally for meaningful pursuits in the illustrative arts--including print and digital publishing, design applications, business and educational communications, self-publishing and entertainment media. The Illustration Department seeks individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences and ideas, and encourages applications from candidates historically under-represented in higher education. The department's goal is to educate artists who are imaginative critical thinkers capable of entrepreneurial initiative and collaborative engagement and who are willfully, thoughtfully, and critically involved in the discourse of contemporary society.

 

All CCAD faculty have access to a variety of internal funding sources in order to support professional practice (travel, research, projects), including the Griffith Big Project Fund that supports new making and research projects.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master's-level degree in illustration or significant professional experience required.
  • Experience teaching at the college level is desired, but not required.

 

A completed application will include:

  • A cover letter that articulates the ways their experience fits the role as well as:
    • a diversity statement outlining their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (an application without a diversity statement will not be considered).
  • A CV including names/contact details for three references
  • A portfolio of professional work and a portfolio of student projects (both can either be linked to in the CV, or uploaded) (10-15 images each for professional work and, if applicable, 5-10 images of student projects,)
