Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Controller, the Revenue and Capital Asset Accountant will be responsible for processing, recording and analyzing financial transactions (including checks, cash, credit cards, and electronic transfers) and for maintaining and improving the accounting for the College’s fixed asset inventory.This position contributes significantly to financial reporting, including producing, reviewing and managing data used for preparing financial statements, internal and external financial surveys, student accounts receivable, and other periodic requests. The position requires the application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and procedures to ensure accurate and timely recording of revenue received through events, activities, student payments, and other forms of campus commerce as well as accounting for additions, deletions and changes to the College’s fixed asset database resulting from construction, equipment acquisition or disposal and other applicable transactions.

Essential Duties Summary:

Primary duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Work closely with and provide support to the Associate Vice President for Finance/Controller, the Associate Vice President for Budget and the Director of Student Accounts
  • Deposit checks received to the bank
  • Download and process lockbox transactions
  • Process/post journal entries, crediting student accounts for payments received as appropriate. Review transactions for accuracy and errors prior to posting. Coordinate and resolve transaction error corrections.
  • Maintain and improve the College’s record of fixed assets and other property
  • Review depreciation expense and changes in asset status
  • Assist in reconciling the capital budget
  • Recommend additional procedures to implement to enhance controls and improve data accuracy
  • Assist with reconciliation of other balance sheet and fund group accounts (employee benefit withholding, restricted funds, etc.)
  • Provide support during the annual financial audit process and assist in preparation of data for auditors
  • Perform other institutional projects and duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

Position Qualifications

  • AA/AS degree required, BA/BS degree in accounting or business preferred
  • Experience in a higher education or non-profit accounting setting a plus
  • Experience working with budgets a plus
  • Discretion and ability to handle confidential information required
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Analytical skills and attention to detail with accuracy
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Strong technology skills (MS Office)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgement

Requirements for Employment:
